Tempting to give it a low-star rating since I must admit, I have not caught a single mouse with this yet, but I have to still give it credit for the good design and well-made quality. I had some mice getting into the house and would be awoken by my cat chasing one around one too many times. I do not want to "exterminate" them, I just want to politely escort them from the premises and bring them for a scenic drive up the road. So this seemed ideal, they climb in and can't get out, and you can safely drive them up the road, and after a stern talking-to, drop them off with the best of wishes and a tiny lunch packed in a little handkerchief on a hobo stick. It's got a clear cover so you can easily check to see if there's anything in it, and lots of air holes so the mouse doesn't suffocate while waiting to be discovered. The lid just lifts open, but with a heavy spring, so it won't open by itself or by the mouse. Holes are at each end with a one-way ramp inside, and my understanding was to place it up against a wall, with the hole facing closest to the wall, so they run along and right into it. I put all kinds of tempting treats in it: cat food, dog food, crackers & peanut butter.... but alas, it sat empty and still sits empty months later despite moving it to various locations.

So while I really like the no-harm design of it and the overall good quality, I'd bummed that I've yet to catch a single mouse with it. Maybe next Fall (when they tend to venture inside more often) I'll try it again with some different treat/bait and some different locations, and see if I have better luck. If I do, I will be sure to update this.

Best design for entry ramps

This mouse trap has one key difference from the competition: the ramps are attached to the underside of the lid instead of on top of the base. When you open the lid the ramps lift up and out of the way. This makes it easier to clean. Also it's easier to look inside and see if there is a mouse hiding under a ramp because the wall between the ramp and the rest of the trap interior isn't necessary in this design so it's not there to block your view under the ramp with the lid closed. One disadvantage of the way this trap is made is that the lid edge isn't rolled over so there is a sharp edge you can cut yourself on if you are not careful.

260+ catches and counting...

UPDATE: I started using peanut butter for bait in these traps as the fruit loops shrink and go funky in the summer heat. To date I have now caught 260+ mice!! I smear a tiny dab of peanut butter on the inside of the lid between the 2 ramps. I have 8 of these traps around the house exterior and 5th wheel. I have caught so many more mice with these than sticky pads and snap traps it's crazy!

Original review: This works great! We have caught more mice with this than snap traps and no yuck to handle. I have baited this live trap with "Fruit Loops" like one fellow suggested...mice like them. We caught 7 mice in the first 4 days, and have caught 6 more over the past 2-1/2 weeks.

I got these traps at our new CAL-Ranch store since they were a bit cheaper there than on Amazon. I did get 2 of the Eaton, J. T. 421CL Multiple Catch Mouse traps here on amazon. I have not caught anything in them, but likely because they are not in the most active areas (and we already reduced the mouse population around here somewhat.

I like these Kness traps better though. When a mouse is caught and you check in the daytime, the mouse is hiding under the entrance ramp. With the Kness trap you can SEE the mouse there since the side of the ramp is open. With the Eaton trap, the ramp has a side cover making it hard to see if a mouse is hiding in there. Eaton traps are markedly less expensive though, but I would buy more of the Kness rather than Eaton since I can do a walk by to see if a mouse is in there.

Works very well but have had a few mice figure out how to get out by opening the ramp.
Also, a tip... If your intention is to release them unharmed outside, they need to be released far, far away! I put a dab of white paint on their backs before releasing them about a half mile away because I had suspicions I was catching the same ones, sure enough, caught white backed mice a day later!
And another tip... Put in the effort to search for and seal their entrance point and you won't have to catch and release them. You'll probably have to crawl around the entire perimeter of your house looking under the siding to find them, but it's worth it.

Not a single mouse caught...

So far I have not caught a single mouse. In fact, I placed the trap against the bottom of my propane oven where I am hearing their activity with a long box over it to give them some privacy and to protect my cats from the diseases they carry - box cut out to allow the mice easy access to the trap, bricks on top to hold the box steady in case my cats get curious, and now I am hearing crinkling against bags of oatmeal, rice, sugar, etc... along my counter tops. This is freaking me out. If I don't start catching mice soon, I am going to choose a trap that kills them even though I'd prefer to just catch and release them miles away.

The trap does seem fairly sturdy, though I wish the top of it would be 'solid' plastic as opposed to the pliable plastic it has (which I imagine they could easily chew through to escape). Not happy so far, as I am aware of the fact that they can carry diseases, deer ticks, and fleas.

Good product. Caught quite a few mice in this trap. I use Cheetos as bait inside cause the mice seem to love them. Noticed after washing a few times the metal is getting a little corroded in a few spots. It doesn't have an effect on its performance. Thinking of buying another. Although one highly intelligent mouse seemed to be able to escape and couldn't figure out how. I even put a rock on the lid. No bait and no mouse. Sorry to say he did fall for the standard mouse death trap though.
