The last thing Lady Jessamyn wants is to marry a barbaric Scotland highlander, but in her day, she does not have any choice between her father and the king mandating the marriage. Her only hope is to have the baron take her in such distaste, he refuses to marry her. There is a huge problem, though. She finds him vastly attractive and quickly grows to love his sisters.
Baron Raeb MacKai does not want to marry the English miss, but he desperately needs the dowry she brings to save his clan from poverty. He also needs to ensure King Edward does not get a foothold in Scotland. If he can get her to repudiate the match, then he can keep the dowry and send her away.
Can this pair manage to achieve their alternate goals, or will the overwhelming passion between them have them throwing caution to the wind?
Knight Defender is an enthralling medieval romance with unforgettable characters and a great plot. The pacing is swift and has just the right amount of action. Ms. Allyn easily swept me into this long ago time through her vivid descriptions of castle life and costumes, along with painting a great visual of the beauty of Scotland.
Jessamyn’s character came across a bit stiff initially, but as she bonds with Raeb’s sisters, I fell in love with her. She is a level-headed, practical woman. She loves deeply once she gives her heart. She is fearless when it comes to protecting her loved ones. Even when it puts her own life in danger.
Raeb is the typical warrior character arch, determined to take care of his clan, even if it means marrying an Englishwoman. He loves his sisters and recognizes his desire for Jessamyn, but he must keep his distance since he does not want to wed her. Once they give into their passion, he immediately accepts that his honor requires he marry her regardless of whether he can truly trust her.
If you enjoy a rousing, good Medieval romance with an emotionally-charged love story, then you will definitely want to read Knight Defender. I highly recommend this book and plan to read Knight Errant, the other book in this series. Happy reading!
As antagonism turns to chemistry the relationship between the main characters is perpetually evolving. I had a lot of fun getting to know them as they got to know one another. I love how strong they both were. The way that they were constantly at each other’s throats made me laugh as you could see the chemistry beginning to bubble under the surface.
This was a fantastic introduction to Allyn’s work for me. I would definitely recommend it to others and will be delving deeper into her work in the future.
