The Knight of the Dixie Wilds takes you back in time where families struggled, friendships were made and lost, and a nation struggled with reconciliation. Unsettled Texas brought about many fights between whites, blacks and Indians. In spite of this, Buck carves out a name for himself as a defender of the women and children who were unable to defend himself. This story is full of action and also draws you in with a hint of romance with Kate, Maggie and May.

Throughout Buck's adventures and mis-adventures, he garners the faith and loyalty from those surrounding him, from a freed Negro slave to a small tribe of Indians. Much like Civil War/reconstruction classic, Gone With the Wind, there's language and references in this story that reflects the beliefs (and prejudices) of the time period that, to me, shows how far we've come, and how far we've yet to go. 5 Stars to The Knight of the Dixie Wilds.
THE CIVIL WAR IS OVER AND YOUR SIDE HAS LOST. WHAT NOW? YOUR WAY OF LIFE IS GONE FOREVER TO NEVER RETURN. NOW YOU MUST LEARN TO DO ON YOUR OWN AND NOT ON THE BACKS OF OTHERS. AN EPIC STORY ABOUT THE ADVENTURES OF BUCK TAYLOR DURING THE RECONSTRUCTION OF THE SOUTH. FOLLOW BUCK FROM MISSISSIPPI TO EAST TEXAS AS HE ENCOUNTERS CRIMINALS, THE KKK, BLACK SOLDIERS WHO WANT TO CATCH HIM, AND THE LADIES HE ENCOUNTERS ON HIS JOURNEY. THIS BOOK IS A GREAT MODERN TREATMENT COVERING A PERIOD OF TIME IN OUIR HISTORY THAT BOTH MADE US BETTER AND WORSE AS A NATION. THE BOOK DOES NOT DISAPPOINT, NOR IS IT PREDICTABLE. A THOUGHT PROVOKING READ.
