All that said, I do have a few critiques. First, his obsession with her neck was a little creepy in the beginning, thankfully it petered off, but I was a little concerned there for a minute! Second, if you read my reviews often, then you know how I feel about rape culture and consent. If you don't know, I find them to be vital and get my hackles up when I feel an author skates too close to the line there. Where the actual sex part is concerned, Suzie handled this really well. However, there's a comment that just got under my skin and stuck under it.
"...I think there is a point of no return. If a woman changes her mind after she's let a man get to that point, she's got no grounds to cry rape. If she's voluntarily taken off her clothes and let a man inside her, it's too late to change her mind. That's how I see the world. You don't play those kinds of games. You don't play with fire and then complain when you get burned."
Women do not owe men anything, whether they're clothed, naked, kissing, or about to climax. All human beings deserve dignity and respect. This is rape culture, my friends, and I won't stand for it. It isn't playing games if you shut down and can't continue. You obviously have a need that isn't being met. If this ever happens to you, don't you dare let anyone make you feel shamed or guilted over it.
Now, I do need to go back after that tangent and defend Suzie and Mac. Throughout the rest of the book he is completely responsive and respectful to all verbal and non-verbal signs and requests. When push comes to shove his above statement goes right out the window and he doesn't actually follow through with what he says there. So that was awesome and had me applauding him.Regardless of that one instance she did handle the rest really well.
Anyway, overall I still loved and thoroughly enjoyed this book as I watched them both grow and change and overcome obstacles of their past and each work toward a new future. I loved Mac and Rachel and would love to read more in this series.

Yes, you have heard the story before where a woman hires a guy to go to a wedding with her and they end up falling in love. However, what those stories lack that this one doesn't is depth. I thought I knew where this book was going but halfway through the book not only is the wedding done and over with but the author throws you a curve-ball that leaves your mouth gaping wide open. It is at that point that the story gets even more interesting and sucks you in. I couldn't believe how much work the author put into her characters. You understand their personalities and not only that but you feel for them. I was simply blown away by this book. I thought it would be a mediocre read but it went above and beyond what I imagined.
I LOVED Mac. I thought he was hilarious with all of his corny pick up lines of "Hey, Sexy. Wanna get naked with me?" and "Can I see your tan lines?". But I also loved his dedication to get back out there after a 15 year marriage and get back on the dating horse. He would get turned down left and right by woman but he still kept at it with Rachel's guidance.
And Rachel. Where do I begin with that little fire cracker. She's bossy and has to be in control of everything. She has enough siblings to be in the remake of cheaper by the dozen (cowboy style) and she is the second oldest in the sea of brothers. However, halfway through she cracks her facade and the results are devastating. I just wanted to reach through the pages and give the woman a hug.
The story is great and flows at a steady pace. It is your normal tale of two people who are trying to get over a hurdle in their life and find companionship with each other. But the author didn't take the easy fluff route in telling the story and that is why I loved it. She took an average story and turned into something more.
Rachel however is single herself and not sure how to help Mac find love when she hasn’t been able to do it herself. Rachel though is in need of a date for an upcoming family wedding to get her family off her back about her single status. Mac and Rachel come up with a plan between the two for Rachel to help Mac with his dating game if he will pose as her boyfriend at an upcoming family wedding.
Knight of Hearts was a really cute romance with the couple starting off as friends helping each other and the relationship given time to slowly grow between the pair. The book starts off extremely funny in the beginning but became quite a touching story as you learn the background on the characters.
The one thing I found with this one though that to me just kept it from being completely amazing though was Rachel and her reaction to her family. She’s a grown woman and to me it seemed to go a bit over the top with her worrying what her family thought of her. I can understand their values and her past but there also seemed to be some point Rachel needed to stand up for what she herself wanted.
Overall, this one surprised me turning a friendly couple into a deeper connection through some emotional things to overcome. It was a great mix of funny, sexy and emotional.
