Knight Moves by John Hartness is the third full length book in the Black Knight Chronicles. This book brings the the core characters Jimmy, Greg, Sabrina, and Mike back for another crazy adventure. This time Jimmy and Greg are called to the scene of a corpse completely drained of blood that has been posed at a construction site. A body with absolutely no blood can only mean one thing, there is another vampire on their turf.
This book shows Jimmy and Greg once again that they still have no idea what other paranormal activity is going on in their city. There is also a bit more background on when the duo of vampires were recently turned and how they reacted to it. The relationships between the characters are also revealed in a little bit more depth. Do Sabrina and Jimmy have a chance? What is the secret that Mike has been keeping from the guys?
Another strong book in the series I will continue to follow along with the misadventures of the Black Knight Detective Agency.

About the Author
John G. Hartness is a recovering theatre geek who likes loud music, fried pickles and cold beer. John is an award-winning poet, lighting designer and theatre producer, whose work has been translated into over 25 languages and read worldwide. He’s been published in several online literary journals including The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature, cc&d, Deuce Coupe and Truckin’. His poem “Dancing with Fireflies” was nominated for a 2010 Pushcart Prize. His first novel, The Chosen, is an urban fantasy about saving the world, snotty archangels, gambling, tattooed street preachers, immortals with family issues, bar brawls and the consequences of our decisions. He followed up The Chosen with Hard Day’s Knight, a new twist on the vampire detective novel and the first in a planned series of at least five books. The second book of The Black Knight Chronicles, Back in Black, landed in March 2011 and has enjoyed immediate success. John has been called “the Kevin Smith of Charlotte,” and fans of Joss Whedon and Jim Butcher should enjoy his snarky slant on the fantasy genre. His next novel, Knight Moves (Black Knight Chronicles Vol. 3) is due out in the summer of 2011. He can be found online at www.johnhartness.com and spends too much time on Twitter, especially after a few drinks.

Who are you kidding? You read reviews to determine if you should buy the book or not. So bottom line, just give it a shot.
I spend more time than I would like to admit to sifting through recommendations and "lists" to find something new to read. I would go crazy waiting for the bigger names in Urban, Epic, or otherwise to come out with their next book. I often find I have wasted money trying out a new author and I am psyched that this is not the case for this series and the rest of Hartness's body of work. Now, if you go into anything he writes having the wrong expectation don't come crying to me when you don't like the books. However, if you take it for what it is, UF meant to keep you turning pages, enjoying the characters, and doing the occasional spit takes, you should love this book.
The characters are accessible and slowly developed.
The plot is nicely spun..( if you read a lot of the genre quit whining if it feels like something else you have read.. it is bound to happen).
The action is well spaced between bits of humorous or character building dialogue so you do not get bored.
The only downside, and reason I am giving the book (and the rest of Harness's body of work) a 4 is that this book, like the rest, are a bit short. While I appreciate quick title releases and an encapsulated story, I would like to see a bit more girth to the next few.

Book number three of a six book series. I suspect that there will be more books in the series. I read the POD (print on demand) trade paperback version. I have ordered books four, five, and six from Big River.
Another very quick read since this is a smaller book (154 pages in trade paperback). Great story and more universe building (we meet more vampires and a very uptight werewolf). And Jimmy got to keep his Fae sword given to him by the Faerie Queen ! Good thing as the new vampires are not all ... friendly.
I was very tempted to rate this book five stars.

When a girl is found drained to death by vampires Detective Sabrina Law draws the obvious conclusion that the only vampires she knows in town did the deed. However, she's wrong and the boys are about to find out Charlotte is not quite as vampire-free as they thought. I thought this book was enjoyable, though not quite as funny as the previous books in the series, but it does represent a definite turning point for the boys story. I'm still looking forward to the next book and reading all the short stories in the series in
Knight (un)Life - Black Knight Shorts Vol. 1
while waiting for book 4 in the series.

Still buying his stuff because it is entertaining and funny while giving us a bit more about our characters

Still buying his stuff because it is entertaining and funny while giving us a bit more about our characters. He continues with his sophomoric wit and that is not meant to be an insult but a lead in to the humor that keeps us entertained in between the story and plot. I wish he could take more time in developing characters and separate stories about them so it would give us more to read as his stories seem to go so quickly and I'd like more time with the characters and learn more about them. With that said he keeps the pace moving quickly without getting bogged down in the minutia of the details.

Out of the three so far in the series I really enjoyed this book. I'm not an avid reader, I use the kindle app on my Android tablet and I couldn't put this book down which for me is not normal. I usually have a difficult time getting myself interested in books but this I dove right into. I really like the way it is written, the author doesn't go overboard describing anything and gives you enough details you can picture things in your mind. In my mind I have cast the characters with my friends that I think of when I read the pages for me it just helps to be able to visualize a book in my head. I read this book faster than I've read any book which is nice (keeps things fresh in my mind) but now I have to find something else to read. Mr. Hartness did a great job writing this book, he and his team have quickly become favorites of mine!

This is by far the best written book in the series thus far. Tight writing and the editor did a good job. The characters we all love are back and doing their thing. The new characters are wonderful as well. (I actually cried when I read the conversation between Jimmy and Mike) What a wonderful third installment. The bad guys in this book really feel like they can do some damage and you know our heroes in are over their heads. Great book. A must read.

I put off buying and reading this entry in the series because once it was over, there were no more to buy.
I end up liking the characters and Mr. Hartness builds a believable urban fantasy world view.
It is not the most complicated plotline you will ever experience, but it is enjoyable in its internal consistency. At no point are you shocked by some inconsistency that takes you out of the story.
Your time will be well spent. Reading the first two entries in the series make it even more enjoyable.

Vampires and werewolf, great mix! Was really hoping for a werewolf to join the team! Book is a whirlwind read of sarcasm and violence. Great fun!
