You know what, I actually liked this story and I'm interested in the other(Knights of Ruby Order). This story wasn't great and it wasn't bad, but yet, it was good enough for me. I think the way the author chose to do the story, peaked my interest.
The moment the story starts, Torn is captured and held for the entertainment of the Mistress of Sophianna. While he is held captive, we don't know much about him because he does not talk or communicate in any way. And for me that was one of the reasons that I liked him a lot. We are told his physical appeal and what he's doing but he never talks. I almost felt like I wanted to wear a shirt that says I heart Torn, for all the fighting he does in the arena. Honey Wine tends to the prisoners' wounds in Sophianna and is also related to the Mistress of Sophianna. She always detaches herself from her surroundings and the pensioners, even though she hates what is taking place. When she meets Torn, she has an uncontrollable desire that she try to deny, but yet find herself drawn to him. As the story goes on both Torn and Honey Wine forms a bond that helps them both through their time spent at Sophianna's dungeon. This leads to finding out more about Torn and his (Knights of Ruby Order)brothers.
As I said I like Torn, in some tiny ways, his character reminds me of a book I read years ago called Born in Sin and it's leading character, Sin. Honey Wine was usual but still very much sweet character. The thing I will say, was when these two said I love you, it made me think that was quick because it felt like that moment went from 0 to a 10 really fast.
By the way, I really love this book cover.
