Knipex Tools 10 99 i220 8.75" Ear Clamp Pliers

Knipex ear clamp pliers are suitable for simple and reliable clamping of 1-ear and 2-ear clamps. The slim head design permits good accessibility in confined areas and will not damage the press points on the ear clamps. These pliers are crafted from high-grade special German tool steel; forged and oil-hardened. Knipex ear clamp pliers are available in either front jaw or front and side jaw models.

I purchased these to crimp the fuel line clamps on my Mercury Optimax outboard motor while replacing all of the fuel lines. These crimpers are a little more expensive than the standard ones you find for $12 - $15, but are well worth the money. They seem to be very good quality and the side crimping edge is invaluable for confined or tight spaces. Don't think I could have completed the job without further disassembly of the engine housing if I was using standard crimpers without the side edge. These things are great, and you will only regret it if you purchase the cheaper standard models that do not have the side crimping capability as it saves you time and frustration! Happy with the purchase!

because I bought these clamp pliers before trying to do so! bought these to change my tie rod boots, and boy was it easy! if you're contemplating of whether to get the front and side version or just the front style only; get the front & side, it's wide enough to clamp the entire width of boots and the side is great if you're not up for crawling underneath the car or if there is no access to the clamp from underneath and you need to reach in from the side to clamp the boot.

DO NOT Go Cheap! Get This For Ear Clamps!

I decided to save some money and went with another brand (PT). Hey, was real cheap and based on the stars seemed good. I should have read the comments...

I was placing the boot on a new CV axle after I greased it. I attempted to crush the ear clamp and it was a no go. Thebpliers kept slipping and it took a fair amount of elbow grease to actually crimp the clamp. After several attempts I ended up deforming the clamp. That is when I came back and read the reviews on that plier. Many had the same issue I had.

I decided to go with the tried and true players in the pliers industry, Knipex. I bought these bad boys for almost 2-3x the amount but once I locked them on, they fixed the deformity of the clamp and did so with ease.

Save yourself the trouble and time. Especially if you're doing this for a customer, go with Knipex. The name carries itself.

Since then, I have bought many Knipex pliers and not one has failed me yet.

Knipex quality has yet to let me down. When you want a good fit and an OEM look on any pipes that are clamped, ear clamps the the way to go. To get by, you can definitely use a pair of pliers in a pinch, but these are the way to go for the best fit. The teeth are spaced just enough so you don't accidentally cut all the way through the clamp. These also have a set of teeth on the side which really help in tight spots. Would definitely buy again.

I don't normally do reviews but these pliers where interesting so I figured I'd comment on them. First off, being able to buy knipex brand pliers of any kind at this price is pretty amazing, they are like any other knipex tool you would use and are too quality and seem like you can really abuse them if you wanted to.

But they do have one flaw in some situations. When installing large cv boots with larger clamps (in my experience, the outboard boots on my 13 Tacoma) they lack the leverage to be as effective as they could be unless you have very, very strong hands. I have to use a separate set of slip joint pliers to starts the initial squeeze on larger oem cv boot clamps (usually the outboard joints found on trucks and suvs. Cheaper chinese clamps and smaller oem quality clamps are no problem for these pliers however. It is something to keep in mind. I would've like to have another few inches of length just to get a bit more leverage although it would make the pliers a bit more clunky to use.

But being that these pliers are priced very reasonably I still give them a high rating. Just be aware of the possible shortcomings if your planning to use these on heavier duty applications. These are probably perfect if your only working on cars.

These are far superior to the other styles of crimpers/clamp pliers with the weird sliding pivot point. They allowed me to crimp the "ear style" CV joint clamps I had been fighting. I do wish the were a little longer to provide more leverage. It's difficult to completely crimp the last millimeter on larger CV clamps. This is why I knocked off one star for versatility. They got the job done and given how well the worked compared to my last set I'm very happy with their performance. Would recommend, not worth trying to save a few dollars on a cheap set!

Required when oetiker clamps are a must

When dealing with oetiker clamps style clamps there is no substitute. I thought I could get away with using tongue-and-groove pliers—also known as water pump pliers, adjustable pliers, groove-joint pliers, arc-joint pliers, Multi-Grips, tap or pipe spanners, gland pliers and Channellocks (i.e., Channellock brand pliers) but I was able to achieve the correct sharp pinch that is required with oetiker clamps style clamps. I prefer the front and side pinch models for accessibility In confined areas.

Excellent product. Well made and sturdy sherman tool. I'm using it on single ear clamps for irrigation tubing and it works great. You are able to clamp the ear without breaking them like my pex tool was doing. I'm not so sure I'd use it for pex but for regular hose clamping it can't be beat. The side clamp is also a great idea that works. I'd recommend this quality German made too 100% it's not a piece of cheap China made junk, it is a quality tool.

This is another awesome set of pliers from Knipex. It gives an excellent leverage when setting Oetiker clamps on garden hoses. I included some pictures of other pliers from OTC and LISLE. As you can notice, the Knipex have the smallest set of handles. Lisle pliers are the longest. I do prefer the feel of the forged Knipex pliers. They dont twist or distort under load like the other 2 ones. Don’t get me wrong, the OTC’s and Lisle are truly good product and perform the clamping duties as good as the Knipex. Their feel is just different due to stamped steel riveted handles.

For under 30$ Can., it’s really a good deal.
