You write really well and Lorimer's introduction puts it really well; reflecting how you have gathered people's experiences and (dare I say it..) knitted them together into a compelling yarn.(Sorry couldn't resist it!) I bought this book mostly out of curiosity and because I had read a positive review. This book went into the trash! It was poorly written, seemingly unedited, filled with misspellings, poor syntax, worse grammar and was a bigger waste of my time just determining all of that than it was a waste of money buying it. Obviously a self-published book, the author could have done her readers an enormous favor by having someone, anyone, read her book and give an honest evaluation. If the author’s intent to help her readers was genuine, she should have done more work on her book before publishing it.

I used to do a lot of knitting at one time and I'm thinking of taking it up again so I thought this book would be an interesting read. It will be of interest for anyone who has any sort of illness - whether mental or physical. Knitting is relaxing partly because it includes lots of repetitive actions and it keeps your conscious mind active and so stops you worrying about other things in your life.

The author has worked with people with all sorts of health problems and has found that knitting can help people in most cases. If you have mobility problems with your hands then short spells of knitting will keep your joints mobile. Depression can often be improved if people take up knitting. It can help people who get anxious in social situations and when travelling on public transport.

If you join a knitting group then the craft helps you meet other people in a 'safe' situation where you can join in or not with the conversation just as it suits you and in a way that feels comfortable. Knitting is an ice breaker and a conversation started when you're with strangers. Planning your knitting products keeps you focussed and gives you something to look forward to.

The author quotes from research which shows how beneficial knitting can be to anyone whether they are well or ill and it can be a life saver for people suffering from long term illness or disability and can actually help them to improve their health and reduce their medication. Whether you are well or ill knitting can help you and give you a hobby which can last a lifetime.

I have been waiting for a lifetime it feels, to read Betsan's work after reading an interview with her in a cross stitch magazine years ago. I have not been disappointed, a lot of what she writes is familiar as I live with chronic pain have been subject to physio, doctors, pain management groups and many other interventions over the last 5 years. I wish Betsan would come to Glasgow & set up a knitting group at my pain clinic because as a trainee counsellor I know how beneficial a group like this can be & as my pain clinic has no support group at all for people like myself I would love it .

My 5 star rating reflects not only my feeling that this is a good book but also that what it says can make such a difference to anyone whose feeling of wellbeing needs to be improved.

This is a really repetitive read. The good points are there, hence the two stars, but they are made over and over, and it is not written well enough to conceal the fact that you're reading the same things repeatedly.

I'm a keen knitter, and already appreciate the de-stressing value of it, so I was excited to read this. I was intrigued to see the research results, and also to learn more about the health benefits of knitting. Sadly, there is nowhere near enough of the former in terms of hard data, although there are quite a lot of quotes from participants. As for the latter, there are some good points to be made, and they are made well enough, hence the two stars, but the whole thing could have been accomplished in a tenth of the word count. I should have liked it a great deal better and scored it higher if it had not pretended to be a book, but had presented itself as a report or other shorter document of the research work the author has done.
