Pecan Morrow is a fighter and I mean that in every sense of the word. When you’ve been victimized as consistently and repeatedly as Pecan has in this book, it would be easy to check out. Being married to an abuse man is psychological warfare. The physical abuse is only part of the problem. The shame and the inability to confide in someone are as equally if not more damaging. Pecan had a few “standing 8’s” but never knocked out. I believe it had to be the love of her children that kept her alive during her nightmare existence.
If I had one critique, it would be that the end seemed a little hurried. The author took painstaking detail in the development of the plot and seemed as if she suffered from writer’s fatigue in the conclusion. Please don’t let that stop you from enjoying an up and comer in D. Bryant Simmons. She is the real deal!
Pecan is a character who fills up my heart and fills up my hopes-I rooted for her from page one,
Thanks for this beginning of a saga, I was pulled and led by the power of these characters and the sweetness of this family.
I look forward to the children's stories!
