Knocking Boots stops at 59%, and V. Wood's Promise Me is a bonus novel. The story's well-written, relatable plot, and loveable characters.
Charlie and Grace's chemistry is hot and you really root for them. Charlie has been burned in the past, and though he likes Grace, he's hesitant to want more. Grace has accomplished everything she's ever wanted except for marriage and family. Unfortunately for her, a doctor's appointment informs her time is running out on the latter. Plus, she has a crush on a guy who fears commitment.
I really felt for both characters, but especially Grace. She found herself in a position many women find themselves in. A woman with a successful career, 30 years old, and wanting a family. The problem is finding Mr. Right before your body runs out of time or finding an alternative.
I teared up once or twice reading K.B. The story is very good and has crazy hot chemistry. I definitely recommend it.
Beautiful Grace Campbell is a 30-year-old graphics designer who has a passion for painting. Due to medical reasons, her biological clock is ticking…. fast.. Grace has a plan. Find a man, get married and most importantly, get pregnant and have a baby. Grace won’t settle for anything less than what she wants and will fight to achieve her goal of becoming a mother. And when you have a perfectly laid out plan, nothing will go wrong, piece of cake, right? Ha….. I don’t think so……
Gorgeous hottie Charlie is a 30-year-old who owns and tends bar at Macs Tavern. He’s a workaholic and has no time for romance… Five years ago, betrayal of the worst kind left a bitter taste in his mouth and on his outlook on love. He decided then, that he will never fall in love, have a relationship or get married and have children….ever. And when you feel that strongly about something you stick with it don’t you think? Hmmmmm…. Yeah right!!
Grace routinely drops by Mac’s to have a few drinks and to “crush” on the yummy bartender Charlie. For reasons that are not clear to Charlie, he actually looks forward to her visits and he secretly “crushes” on her too (in his head he secretly calls her his little sweetheart). I absolutely loved the witty banter between Charlie and Grace. They flirt harmlessly and both know that it would not go further than that, because, well, they have different life plans after all right? WRONG!!
What they say is right. Opposites do attract. Grace and Charlie couldn’t be more opposite in what they want out of life-and for good reason. However, they are a magnet for each other. A force to be reckoned with. .If only that were enough… These two have a problem “settling”. Grace won’t settle for anything less than her life plan and Charlie won’t settle….down that is…. Ahhh… a match made in heaven.
It’s during one of their visits together at the bar that things take an interesting turn. Feeling frustrated by his family constantly meddling into his love life, and with Grace understanding his dilemma, she tells him to send a pic of them together and send it to his family to get them off his back. After that, family backs off and Charlie can relax and forget about it…. That will work….. “Sure” it will.
Things snowball immediately after he tells them he has a girlfriend. Now, Charlie and Grace must keep up with the charade until after the wedding of Charlie’s sister Ali, who by the way, ropes Grace into being a bridesmaid. All this is just the first few chapters. Now, let the good times roll...
What happens when the two agree to just have fun with each other (including red hot sizzling sexy time) and play it out until after the wedding? What happens when feelings grow between them? Can they “just have fun” and not let growing feelings for each other get in the way of life plans and no commitment? Can Charlie let down his guard and risk having his heart ripped out again? Can Grace look beyond her plans for the possibility that life or even love may take her in a different direction? What happens when some dreams come true and then those dreams are shattered? Both Charlie and Grace fight their feelings for each other but. It’s a battle of wills… Who will be victorious? Charlie? Grace? Or will destiny and true love concur all and show them the light to guide them towards each other?
I adored Charlies family - Mom, Pops, and sisters Cheryl and Ali and her little 3-month-old daughter. The family’s Sunday dinners are the best. My most favorite part of this book was during one of the dinners when they were playing “hot potato” with the gravy. If you’re a gravy lover, you will appreciate the humor. I was cracking up so loud. It was just plain hilarious.
Grace’s coworker Diane is an evil villain-I just loved to hate her. Her character really worked well in the story. And let’s not forget about Grace’s date from Hell, Jason…. I found myself wanting to “b____ slap” them both more than a few times. Now there is a match made in heaven.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced reader copy of this book but I also purchased my own copy.
Charlie lights up every time he sees Grace. He's enchanted by her but keeps her at arms length. He knows she's a 'forever girl' and that isn't where his mind is. He's not sure it will ever be.
Circumstances bring them together and they get a chance to see how good they are but they both refuse to talk to the other person about what they're thinking. Because of that, we have to witness they're waffling back and forth between her 'I want him but I know he couldn't want me' and his 'she's perfect but she's only slumming and couldn't really like him'.
The saving grace for this book was the short bonus chapter. Sign up to receive it as it's a lovely conclusion to their story.
This book will make you want to take both of them and shake them asking WTF are you thinking. It is a Must Read!
