The Oi Bell
Redefining the Bike Bell
With a standout design that tucks stealthily close to your bars, the Oi is a unique way to add some noise potential to your bike. Knog has removed everything that has contributed to the dusty image of bicycle bells and replaced it with an innovative bell that projects a bright, crisp, ear pleasing sound, all while hovering cleanly around your handlebars. The aluminum surface of the Oi is available in 4 different color variations.
- Stainless Steel, High Tensile Spring
- Aircraft Grade Aluminum Ringer
- Reinforced Nylon Mount
- M4 Hex Screw Tightener
The Oi bell's shape originates from its home - the handle bar. Knog’s design team explored hundreds of iterations in designing the style. Then tested and prototyped different widths, depths, materials, curvature, actuators, springs and more to get to the optimum design. Where bells usually protrude up or out, Oi doesn’t. It appears to hover around the handle bars. In one sense, it's discreet. But in another, it stands out as unrecognizable.
What about the handle-bar cables? No worries. Built into the shape of the mount is a cable management system. So not only does it allow the bell to look and sound uninterrupted, it also helps gather your cables. What about getting it on the bar. Again, not a thing. Just pop it over, give the hex screw a quick tighten up, and you're good to go. No sliding down the handlebars, no dismantling and re-assembling.
Clear, Cutting Sound
Knog tested numerous prototypes to get the perfect pitch, length of ring, and volume. With a spring-loaded actuator built into the mount, the strike of the bell is firm and fast, allowing a good balance of volume and longevity of sound. The bell actually has several pitch tones - one core and several supportive higher tones to ensure its unmistakable and safely heard. To compare it to a musical instrument, where some bells play a single note, Oi plays a chord.
Refusing to conform to anyone or anything
Knog is out there every day smashing the main roads, rolling softly through the back country and being attuned to global sub-cultures which is the source of Knog’s inspiration. It's what drives them to consistently deliver fresh and innovative products that enable riders, walkers and urban adventurers around the world to discover their own sense of freedom, have fun, and live in the moment.
Bike bells generally look & sound a bit ugly. But why? What if they looked sexy & sounded like an angel playing a glockenspiel? A bell with a beautiful tone, but also a remarkable style and choice of materials that embodies a rider’s personality. The Small Oi fits 22.2mm bars e.g Mountain bike (near the grips), BMX & some old commuters. The Large Oi fits 23.8 to 31.8mm bars e.g. drop bar road bikes and some cruiser / commuters. Please make sure you know where on your handlebar you are going to place the bell (grips or stem) before you order as you may need a different sized bell.

I love the design of this bell, but it is just about useless to me. On road rides, cruising at 15 mph the bell is virtually inaudible to riders more than 8 feet away. I believe this is because the bell is lower frequency and does not have a punchy ring when hit with the striker This seems to cause the ring to get lost in background wind noise. Add to this the suspension of the bell itself is very springy. So much so that on a reasonably rough road surface the bell is constantly making a little ding.ding.ding.ding.ding noise. You also have to be very careful to keep your hand away from the bell because any contact will mute it almost completely. The cable relief in the band is a neat feature, and is one of the reasons I bought the OI brand. However, if your cables come out of the tape on the front of the bar instead of the bottom the bell striker will be rotated very far down on the bar. Due to the design this is fixed and cannot be adjusted on the bell...
After noting the constant dinging on a semi-rough road I'm not even going to try it on the mountain bike....
Pros: Really slick look
Cons: Not loud, Have to be careful where you touch it, Cable routing can cause bell to be forced into position where it is difficult to use, Minor vibrations cause bell to make noise.
Certainly ordering the wrong size is my fault, and unfortunately I'm out of the Amazon window for a return, but I do think sizing is a big overall problem with this product, and it's difficult to know what the exact diameter of your bicycle's handlebar is before ordering.
08/03/17, first one sounded like angelic tone. nice and crisp. and long lasting sound. i bought another one and put it on today and it sounds like a dud compared to my first one. same size same color the small 22.2 black, ill exchange and change back to 5 if my replacement works just as good as my first. now down to 3 stars after hearing the second one. still makes a sound just not long lasting and sounds different, not as harmonic, long lasting or high tone like my first still nice looking bell.
08/05/17 so i go my replacement from amazon and it sounds great. back to 5 stars. thx
I hadn't realized there was an allen wrench and a spacer inside the package, so make sure to watch for that. I would have liked to have put the rubber spacer between the bar and the plastic, but I think it'll be all right. I have rather large handlebars anyway.
