In addition to much fancier (fluke) meters, use this to simply make sure that line I am working on is not carrying current. It's a simple job, but in the end, the most important electrical test I'll due in any given day. It's a dedicated tool, simple to use and to read, and it reminds me to start with checking for safety before going to the next step. I've had two of these (first one evaporated....) over about 10 years. Excellent.

Which was a national brand....JUNK comparatively! My son and business partner has used other brands and I got him one as well. It is an OK alternative but a little bit on the weak side. You really have to have visual contact with it and pay close attention to the meter movement.
The size is excellent and it seems well built. My only problem is the the almost silent communication between tester and user and it should be the opposite.
