About the Author
Growing up in West Africa, Dr. Tinuade Olusegun—“Dr. O” to her patients—experienced healthcare delivery to the underserved and underprivileged first-hand. She vowed, at an early age, to make patient care her life’s work and emigrated to the United States to realize that dream. Dr. O earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Maryland in College Park, Maryland and completed medical school training at Virginia Commonwealth University/Medical College of Virginia. She later obtained post-graduate education in internal medicine, completing her internship and residency at Georgetown University Hospital/Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C. After residency, Dr. O relocated from the northeast U.S. to Texas and began practice as an internal medicine hospitalist at Baylor University Medical Center in downtown Dallas. Dr. O worked with renowned specialists in all fields of medicine, helping her gain even further insight into human diseases. Along the way, she realized that many of the conditions she was treating were secondary to being overweight or obese. Heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, pulmonary difficulty—many times these problems stem from the mysterious disease called obesity. Dr. O knew that if she could just help her patients lose weight, many of their complaints would be automatically addressed. She has spent the years researching obesity and its causes and treatment, and helping patients develop customized, effective weight loss solutions. Know More, Weigh Less synthesizes her knowledge and experience with weight gain and loss, and she hopes it will empower people to understand the disease in order to conquer it—for good.
