An ok book with very basic instructions

This was a very basic maintenance primer with few pics for illustrations. He recommends basic tools but neglects to tell you which power tools to buy. You need power tools. He also does not give you all the info on the basic hand tools that he recommends. I can think of three different uses for needle nose pliers that he does not recommend for example. His info is ok but not enough to help you to fix some problems that you can fix with the right instructions.

What a great book! I now see my house so differently. Reading this book pointed out things in my house that needed immediate attention that I was completely unaware of.
After reading this book, I gained an appreciation of checking the pipes below the sinks. Right after reading this, a close friend had a pipe burst and he is spending Christmas in a hotel room. Like Kevin points out many times in this book, there are easy, inexpensive repairs all around the house that can prevent thousands of dollars in damage...like my poor friend and his burst pipe.
I recommend this book to anyone who cares about their house, it's upkeep and it's ultimate value. I am not super-handy, but this book gave me the confidence to tackle a lot of projects around my house - and the wisdom for when to call a pro.

A comprehensive guide to understanding what is the important stuff in your home that absolutely requires your time and attention to save you money/hassles today and down the road. This is a must have book for the homeowner looking to protect their investment and keep it safe while living there as well as increase it's value when it is time to sell.

I read this book and discovered several "hidden" issues that if left unattended would have cost me thousands to repair.

This book stands out among all the "do it yourself" books and is a must read.
