5.0 out of 5 stars New primary book reader!
By BB on October 26, 2017
So I have Kindles, Nooks and now exploring the Kobo series of e-readers.

I have a stack of them.
Why? Seriously, who wants to carry around 10,000+ books? I DO.
My library goes with me and is backed up a LOT.
It fits on this 8gb onboard storage with room to spare.

I have put images in showing the comparisons of screens.
First picture:
From left to write
Left is a Kindle Paperwhite I bought this February [LOVE it, but these Kobos are in fact slightly BETTER]
Next is a Kobo Aura H2O Gen 2 (6.8" screen)
Third is the Kobo Aura ONE (7.8" screen)
Far right is a B&N Nook reader SimpleTouch with GlowLight

2nd picture: Aura One (7.8") side by side with Nook
3rd picture: Aura H2O [second edition] side by side with the Kobo Aura One

That orange-ish light is totally adjustable in brightness / intensity and you can go with normal light [like a the paperwhite display] during daylight hours. But it is very easy on the eyes.

Page flipping has to be handled by pressing on the screen or swiping (presses can be adjusted to be vertically oriented [top back, bottom forward] or adjusted for horizontal. Swiping the page works as well.

The paperwhite has a nice 6 inch screen and is utterly convenient to Amazon marketplace and beastly to anything else [no epub support even in 2017? come on]

Now, the kobos start at 6.8" for the Aura H2O and go to 7.8 inches for this model (Aura ONE). As any woman can tell you, inches count.

All of these are comfortable to hold in the hand, but the ability to easily sideload and use multiple formats has really made this Aura One reader stand out among the crowd.

Oh and did I mention waterproofed?
Want to read in the tub? By the pool? Oceanside? Kobo has that covered OUT OF THE BOX.

Amazon, if you are listening?
Bring this blueblocker tech into the next revisions and allow for other formats.

All of the other e-reader builders
My biggest complaint about ALL of them is BOOK MANAGEMENT. Let me have and easily organize thousands of books based on FILE STRUCTURE inside the e-reader!! Nook comes close but it only lets you view them in cover mode.
I want to SEE my filenames in a nice series of lists and genres (directories). Do this and us bibliophiles will beat down your door.
A second place alternate is allowing readers to manage tags [genres, authors, titles] and to easily manage collections via software on a laptop.
Oh and BULK SELECT is a must.

Final rant
I do information security. I DO NOT trust cloud based solutions farther than I can throw them.
If it's online it can get lost, copied, stolen, held for ransom.
And disk space [micro sd cards] are dirt cheap. 32gb for 12 bucks is more space for books than I will ever use.

Equifax losing control over 143 million records and Deloitte losing 250,000 customer facing private emails only makes me avoid the cloud more.

Carry your library in your palm. Pick one of these readers up. You won't regret it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely THE ONE
By Truth Seeker on April 14, 2017
Let me start off by saying that this is the most beautiful device I have ever used for reading, and I have literally tried them all. No comparison. The sheer size of it, the crispy display, even lighting, thin light weight form factor, highly customizable options and endless features is just pure heaven!
I also purchased from Chapters indigo online for $199! That is a steal for such an amazing device and received it literally 5 days later. So why I am here on Amazon writing a review? Because this gorgeous device is currently only known to about 3% of the population since it isn't sold in US retail stores, and more people need to know about KOBO, what they offer and what they are bringing to the table. People need to know their options.

As for The Kobo Aura One, it's the biggest eReader with a 7.8" screen and a crisp 300ppi display. This makes a HUGE difference when compared to your standard 6" reader, so much so that you will never go back, trust me.

With the Kobo Aura One, you have endless customization options such as the ability to control margins to the edges of the screen, left justification so no weird spaces in between words, you have tons of font size options, line spacing options and you also have the ability to adjust the weight of the fonts in order to make words bolder for better readability. Speaking of fonts, you also have the option to side-load your own fonts through a simple drag and drop feature when connected by USB. No longer are you stuck with fonts that are force fed to you that you never use. When the reader is in sleep mode, it shows the current book cover you are reading and progress meter as your wallpaper. On the bottom of the screen you have a progress indicator showing how far along you are in a chapter, for example "page 12 of 24" in chapter 5. With the Aura One, you also have the ability to adjust the lighting to a more warmer tone for night reading. You also have 8gb of storage compared to your standard 4gb, you also have access to "Overdrive" to check out ebook rentals from your local library, you also have Pocket integration in case you want to read your favorite articles on your Aura One. It's also standard epub format and allows for better indexing for better book presentation.
Want to take it to the beach? No problem, the Aura One is fully waterproof! Want even more customization options? No problem, you can sync up to Calibre and manage all your collections with a few simple clicks, you can also add patches from third parties for even more customization. The possibilities are ENDLESS!

#A favor:
