The Kodax 10XL is comparable to the Kodak 10B ink Cartridge. One thing to note is that it holds about 70% more ink, but also costs 70% more. You are not saving money by buying this, but according to Kodak, if you would like to replace your ink less, than this is for you. I find a better value in the combo pack, the 10B/10C. But if you print a lot of text/b&w documents, then this is for you.

UPDATE 10/2010 - AMAZON quits selling $17 ink msrp cartridge from kodak and farms it out - check your nearby office supply store for better pricing - msrp on this item is 17 bucks from kodak but the seller right now is charging a premium - if it returns to being sold by amazon like before it should be priced at 17 bucks because kodak is very picky about ink price. REVIEW FOLLOWS NOW.

Printer inks are NOT all the same. Yes, they look similar - little black boxes that eventually run dry and you gotta buy another one. But the ink inside can be run of the mill DYE based inks [frequently used on refill kits], or specially engineered PIGMENT inks. If you want the skinny just google (dye vs pigment inks) and there are more opinions, white papers, chem engineer's Ph.D thesis, and best of all - Manufacturer's "BUY ME" pdfs. I own just two FULLY pigment based printers (the Kodak I reviewed for Amazon's vine - their entry level combo scanner / printer) and an HP designjet Z3200ps 44". Now let's look at the ink in close detail.

Dye inks fade fast. A good example of Dyes are food coloring. Dye molecules are very small, and the energy carried by ultraviolet rays easily breaks the small bonds of dye molecules. Yellow is usually the first to go, followed by magenta, then lastly cyan. I used a laboratory 5,000 watt UV A-B-C lamp meant for outer space covering research to test my inks, but you can just put a printed page outside for a couple weeks and try it for yourself if you're curious - you'll get UV-B and C since the atmosphere stops A. My test lamp is like a tanning booth on steroids - 5 minutes simulates 5 weeks of UV on earth thanks to our atmosphere, and it's why NASA spacesuits are multimillion dollar attire.

I bought this for my 3 month new Office Hero 6.1 because it claimed to have 70% more ink for only $3.00 extra. It ran out in 1 month! Typically, I get about 3 months from a cartridge. One other concern .... I found I had to "clean" my printer more frequently after installing the XL. Obviously, cleaning uses up ink, which leads to getting only 1 month of use out of it. Coincidence? Maybe. Kodak is sending me a new printhead under warranty, and I'm ordering 1 more XL to see if it happens again. Good luck to you!

I use the 10XL cartridge to feed the insatiable needs of my Kodak Hero 6.1 printer (purchased Oct 2011).

I have very modest printer needs, though prior to having my Kodak printer, I used to make all my own bday/x-mas cards. I usually print a couple of text only documents a week, most being of less than 1/2 page of text. I've been printing much less (specifically because of the printer) but BURNING through more ink cartridges than I have ever before in the past.

Best I can figure, this is about the 5th printer I've ever owned. I'm not one for replacing something that works just fine and all my previous printers worked great and lasted a long time. My last printer was a HP PhotoSmart that I had from 2003-2011. Alas, can't say the same thing for the Kodak product.

To be honest, I really can't confirm if my issues with the cartridge is solely based on the functions of the printer or the cartridge, but I think it's fair to judge the product(s) as a set.

As soon as I save up my ducats, I'll be replacing the unit. 'tis a shame to have to throw out $150 of hardware but I feel confident that I'll be saving money on ink purchases in the future.

A useful note, the November 2012 issues of Consumer Report magazine (pg33) list the top 15 "all-in-one" inkjet printers and NOT one of them is a Kodak product.

I purchased this replacement cartridge for my all in one kodak printer and rather then the 770 pages I'm supposed to get, I got less then 100. Love the printer, but come on.

I have a history of buying third party ink/refills for the various inkjet printers I have had over the years, HP, Epson, Canon etc. When I bought the Kodak, I decided to do the same. After all, while the Kodak ink is comparatively cheap the refills and third party ink is even less. I bought a couple of color carts and boy was I disappointed! I read the reviews about ink leaking etc., however you always see these reviews and I had never experienced it before. I read about the poor image quality, again I always see these with third party inks and have never actually experienced it until I bought third party ink for my Kodak! I do not know why, however the third party inks are terrible!

Do yourself a favor an just buy the Kodak Ink!
Low price, good yield,no messes and the image quality you expect.

Have purchased this item once before from Amazon and worked great. Whenever the cartridge runs out, I head back to buy another one. Great product, great price, fast shipping. Don't have to worry about running out to the store when my ink is low and know that prime will get it to me within 48 hours. Perfect!
