I was thinking about giving this a 4 but after thinking about it, i gave it a 5. First, its the Kodak ink system and pricing. Now that I own one, I regret not getting one before. Second, the online chat support was good and is better than a pure voice system, AND instead of "Steve" from Ramadanucuttarampuri, India I actually got a real name... even though I couldn't pronounce it, I could type it. I did have some frustrations at first with the wireless but after an update and a reboot of the Macintosh, it worked very well. Kodak printers have e-mail addresses and you can e-mail documents to them- from anywhere- and it will print them, and it happens within seconds. It's pretty amazing. It's a rather compact unit, although yes it has a verticle input tray and a forward output one, so, no, you aren't going to put it on a narrow shelf. It's quite nice looking.
As for the included software, it s quite interesting, and of the numerous ones I have owned it is the best (Brother, Canon, HP, Fujitsu, Visioneer), with the exception of Paperport. It includes 3 software interfaces, Apple's own, Kodak's interface for USB, and one which is run by a Web Browser.
NOTE: After the software updates, reboot your computer. The update software fails to tell you that and it didn't work properly until I rebooted it. This is one glaring omission.
I have printed several envelopes and that went well. Of course it can act as a stand alone copier, that works well, and a fax machine, although I have not tried that.
The standard settings on the printer produce a good balance between speed and quality.Read more ›
This wireless printer works. All the time. It just works. And it doesn't suck ink while just sitting there when not being used.
Both of the HP's never worked.. the software was corrupted every time there was any update on the computer, It would work one day and then not the next, and
every time I used it, it was out of ink. One night,I had to get something printed for work.. and the HP's again didn't work, so went to walmart to just pick up something cheap so I could get my work done. The wireless Kodak installed instantly and flawlessly. And on my wifes laptop, I didn't even have to install the software, and windows found it. 3 Months later with casual home use.. I have never had a "your printer is not installed" "your printer cannot be found" or your printer is nearly out of ink message. So far flawless. The quality is fine ... and just when is it going to ask for ink??
1) After unboxing, it would not print any black text. They determined the print head was bad and overnighted me a replacement which arrived in 2 days and fixed the problem. Once it was working printing was good, but fairly slow.
2)I used their updated software and upgraded the firmware. Wireless was easy to set up and worked well.
3)Fax was easy to setup and worked well for output. I did not try and receive a fax.
4)The scan function was just terrible and I could not get it to work. Firstly, scans to the Kodak software would only scan a partial page. It would scan an outline of the text or picture and crop the page to that size. So you would see and save an image less than a page. Scanning manually would get the whole page on the screen. Support could never figure it out. The scanning software is cumbersome and clunky. It is not possible to scan directly to an application (except email) and takes a number of clicks to open the scan with an application such as PaperPort or a photo app. You have to click through 3 or 4 screens to get a scan to a file including specifying the format (jpg; pdf; bmp etc.). No way to default straight to a file. Scan applications would not recognize the ADF and would scan one page at a time.
Next issue is that the ADF would jam 50% of the time with only 2 pages in it. It ate my precious originals and I could not trust it.Read more ›
