- Visual display: At viewing angles straight on and from above, photos look bright & sharp with good color and black levels. However, as you move to a lower viewing angle the picture disappears. It seems they used a cheaper 800x600 LCD screen for the unit. If the frame sits on an office desk and you see it from above it's great. If it's on a table at home at you see it at eye level while sitting on a couch, the picture is very poor or simply invisible. This frame is meant to be seen from above.
- Ease of loading pics: I plugged in my SD card with the photos I wanted to copy and was prompted with a menu to copy them. No issues. Because I knew the screen was only 800x600 I resized my pictures to that resolution before copying them over. I probably didn't have to, but I figured that larger source images were just a waste.
- Reliability/stability: There's something here that probably needs to be addressed. Many of the users complain that they're seeing lockups or other strange issues that aren't resolved even when they exchange the unit. I think the software Kodak is running has some memory leaks that ultimately lead to problems. In my case, the photo frame seems to shut down after about 48 hours. No freezes or lockups - I just find that it eventually shuts down. I power it back up and it runs for another couple of days.
All in all, I'd say this was a great idea that almost made it, but ultimately fell short in the details. It's probably fine sitting on an office desk since it can be turned on/off each day, but I find it's less useful in a home environment due to the shortcomings.
Pros:
1.Just plain works with no quirky software
2.The shuffle works OK, but does show some of the same photos each time you turn on the frame, instead of showing other photos that have not been shown for weeks.
3.Does a great job of showing and resizing images of all different shapes and sizes.
4.The images are crisp and clear with realistic color.
Small cons:
1.The on/off button is not easily accessible, tucked away in the middle of the back of the frame.
2.You have a choice of 5/10/60 display times, but the there is only the Pan Zoom transition (very annoying) available with the 10 sec. play speed. So for me, the only speed I can use is the 5sec. with fade.
I would like to give the frame a 4 1/2 stars, but I'm stuck with 5 stars.
Only complaint: It would have been nice to have two separate settings, one for speed and the other for how the pictures transition. I like the middle speed, but dislike the transition, so I keep it on the fastest setting, because I like the way pictures transition.
Next, the picture quality is excellent. What else would you expect from Kodak? This frame replaced a 7" Pandigital frame that I had and the picture quality is like night and day. The kodak frame shows vivid color and sharpness. Also, the Kodak frame shows a large 10" photo. This is perfect for my office as I can actually see my photos now.
This picture frame does not have all the "bells and whistles" that some newer models offer such as music and a remote control, but quite honestly I did not want them. It does give you the option to switch out frames, but I am happy with the nice one that came with the purchase. I simply wanted a larger, quality, easy to use picture frame with internal memory and that is exactly what Kodak delivered!!
