Arguably one of the finest Horror Dramas of all time. The legendary Darren McGavin as Carl Kolchak is priceless. This blu ray upgrade is worth the price. Well done. The quality is far superior than the standard DVD version. Also plenty of commentary. And interviews with producer David Chase one of the few people involved in the show who is still alive. Sure wish Jack Grinnage who played Ron Updike was interviewed. He is the only surviving regular cast member still living.

I loved watching The Night Stalker as a kid. The picture quality is fantastic for a TV program from the '70s. Always loved Darren McGavin and this is definitely nostalgic for me. All shows are included. Haven't watched the bonus features yet, which is loaded with commentaries and interviews. Also comes with a booklet. If you know the show, you'll appreciate this set. If you've never seen it before, it's campy, but if you like Darren McGavin in A Christmas Story, you'll also like these shows.

I remember watching this series as a kid at 8pm every Friday evening and being mesmerized by the stories and monsters! Sometime it was scary, but I loved watching the stories unfold. I purchased the blu ray set after I did a little research, and the picture quality is than the original tv series!! I'm very happy with it and as I'm watching the series again, it brings back those Wonderful Friday nights with a bowl of buttered pop corn and being mesmerized by the whole series again!

This is a review of the quality of the Blu Ray set now being offered. I have to assume the reader is fully acquainted with Kolchak: The Night Stalker so this is a review of the quality of the set. I was unsure if the price of just over $60.00 would be worth it. I have always been a big fan, so I decided to upgrade from the DVD set. The picture quality is better but there is just so much you can do to a tv series this old. I noticed the colors were much brighter and the picture sharper than my old DVD set. They all played with no freezing or malfunctions. My DVD set had 2 episodes that could not be watched. The "extras" are fantastic and are well worth buying this set for. So, in the end both picture and sound quality have been improved and there are many interesting extras to watch and enjoy. If you are a true fan, you should not hesitate in purchasing this set.

This is a far superior HD 1080P transfer than the much earlier and inferior TV Series Set from Universal Home Video in standard DVD(I returned that first release due to it having technical problems,so don't buy it!).It has many audio bonus extras,some interviews,and the Next Week's Episodes Ad Spots(14 out of the 20),but why it's missing 6 of them I don't know (?!).The booklet included is informative with a complete 20 episodes guide and many color images.Overall a great set and comes highly recommended a big A+!

Kino Lorber Studio Classics releases this definitive Blu-Ray set of the fondly remembered and influential, "Kolchak: The Night Stalker" complete series set of all 20 episodes from this sadly short-lived series from 1974-1975, looking its best ever in 2K HD remasters that are huge upgrades from the previous two DVD releases from Universal Studios, particularly the first set from 2005 that had double-sided discs. Darren MacGavin portrayed the dogged and intrepid newspaper reporter who found himself investigating loads of paranormal incidents and monsters that started with the two TV movies from early 1972 & 1973(both available from Kino Lorber as well) Simon Oakland co-starred with him through the whole run as his often-exasperated editor.

There are 4 discs in all, with five episodes per disc that contain audio commentaries on all the episodes, and one "The Spanish Moss Murders' that has two, from various series fans and genre experts that are worth listening to. There are also 14 TV spots for the last 14 episodes, plus on camera interviews with series writer David Chase and fan/comedian Dana Gould. A must have for Kolchak fans, this ranks among the best ever TV series Blu-Rays created. Comes with a slipcover.

I do not review the series here. I only review the blu-ray set. Picture quality is mediocre, the DVDs of the series I have owned for years now have quite a similar picture quality. For the price this set is sold (£ 74.52 as of today) you do definitely not get blu-ray quality. I compare this to blu-ray sets like The Persuaders, for instance, with brilliant sharpness and colours. This I call blu-ray quality. So, as much as I relish the series itself, I cannot recommend the upgrade. Kino Lorber has done far better before.
