I was concerned when it arrived I didn't want to cut the blue silicon tubing if it was not going to work I jimmied it up with a total of 20ft of tubing -pump on floor rise of close to five feet really put to the test and hooked up o 3 check valves and 3 large air stones. Picture attached As u can see it is rocking now will that be that way in a month ? I was referred to this pump by a true aquatic guru who I'm sure he dIsected it and really tested it
I am not sure why manufactors don't put better specs on Amazon you have to depend on cunsumer reviewers some who really know what there talking about and others want to tell everybody There drama . And would not even do a review if the product didn't work you have to plug some these things in .
All air pumps make noise, but the volume from this seems plenty reasonable. I hid mine in a wicker basket under my tank and that seems to almost completely mask any noise. This pump did not come with any other accessories like a t fitting to split the air into multiple hoses, or a check valve to make sure water doesn't back flow into the pump. I already had these so it wasn't an issue for me.
Many people don't know but the rubber diaphragms eventually always wear out in any air pump. So, we will see how long these last, they do list the part number on the packaging for replacing them when they wear out. But, I suspect with shipping that they will cost as much as a new pump since the pump is so inexpensive and eligible for prime shipping.
My goal is to get at least a year of use out of this pump before the diaphragms need replacing. In my mind that's a reasonable amount of time for a pump in this price range. If it dies before a year is out I'll come back and update this post, if there are no updates then it means my pump lasted at least a year!
Except for one fellow who delights in tumbling around right over the air strip! He's the baby of the angels, the others are 3 to 6 inches (including tail fins and the air flow doesn't bother them. Would definitely buy again if I had room for more aquariums!
I changed my rating from 4 to 5, because it turns out that the noise was due to the fact that the airtube was too long. After shortening it so that it was just long enough, the air pump has been virtually silent. I am planning on getting another one for my other tank.
The cord is long and it was a piece of cake to set up. The one I received is all black. It is not like the picture so if you're expecting what's in the picture, I have to assume you will also get a black one. (I prefer black so I was fine with it)
I recommend this pump for strength.
