Product Description

GENUINE KOMBUCHA KAMP KOMBUCHA CULTURE (1 Large SCOBY plus 1 Cup Strong Starter Liquid - Makes 1 Gallon) - ACCEPT NO SUBSTITUTES! Counterfeit sellers (even here on Amazon) claim to offer Kombucha Kamp SCOBY Cultures, but they cannot as KKAMP SCOBYs are the highest quality starter you can buy to make fresh Kombucha at home for about ten cents a glass. KKamp SCOBYs are guaranteed to brew and provide superior flavor and brewing development over competitors. Not all SCOBYs are created equal. There are many low quality SCOBYs being sold. WARNING: Don't be tricked into ordering these types of inferior cultures: dehydrated (requires 30 days to brew), pint sized cultures (weak brew, slow brew), or even test tube cultures (mold). Your brand new KKamp SCOBY Culture is full sized (5-6" across) and shipped with over a cup of strong starter liquid and healthy yeast strands. Not only that, KKamp SCOBYs are raised on 100% Organic and Fair Trade Ingredients for maximum health of the culture and you! Even if you've been brewing for years, you will be surprised and excited by the flavor of your new Kombucha with this healthy culture. Each Culture makes 1 gallon of delicious, sparkling Kombucha and will reproduce to create a lifetime of Kombucha if properly cared for. This package ships via USPS Priority Mail Service.

After doing a bunch of online research, and listening to a bunch of kombucha podcasts, I decided Kombucha Kamp is the producer tht I wanted my culture from. I intended to buy one of Kombucha Kamp's scobys so, I looked on Amazon. What I found was people pretending to be them and selling little scoby's, and who know what conditions they are produced under. (And what else might have fallen into the mix they would send you ... ewww!) I reported the fakers and Kombucha Kamp sent me a scoby as a sweet gesture of thanks. The fakers are gone from Amazon, now. So, full disclosure, I didn't pay for mine. But Kombucha Kamp isn't paying me either .. this is my honest review.

It arrived well packaged ... the scoby and starter tea were in a thick sealed bag, which was inside another bag, inside a third thick sealed bag, wrapped in newspaper, inside a box, which was filled the rest of the way with packing peanuts. This sucker was NOT going to leak.

Outside of liquid, the scoby looks like a large disk of wax about 7 inches wide and 3/4 inch thick. Inside the tea, it looks like a very large version of the cotton rounds that many women use to remove makeup. It feels like boiled egg to the touch. It smells like a cross between tea and apple cider vinegar - but only up close - you can't smell it from a foot away. In other words, it isn't gross. I had to stop my normally squeamish kids because they all wanted to pet it.

It's been brewing in a 3 quart jar for four days and there is definitly a baby scoby growing. I tested the ph last night and it was already down to 3.6 ... in only 3 1/2 days! At this rate, I'm estimating it will be ready to bottle tomorrow. It's been cold here ...

I first discovered Hannah and Kombucha Kamp, here on Amazon. I ordered my Scoby, having never even tried Kombucha, having no idea how to make it or anything. My Scoby promptly arrived, with idiot proof instructions !! My family and I have now become such big fans, we ordered another Scoby directly from Kombucha Kamp and we sing the praises of Kombucha !!
I highly recommend this product and this company !!

I had received a SCOBY from a friend who told me to store it in the refrigerator when not in use. After reading the wealth of information from Kombucha Kamp, I realized this was a mistake and might be the reason I was getting unsatisfactory results. My old SCOBY didn't look nearly as healthy and happy as the one I received from Kombucha Kamp. It is thick and white, exactly as pictured. To be honest, I didn't want to spend the money on this since I have friends who would have given me a baby SCOBY from their Kombucha practice. But I wanted to see the difference in using a SCOBY from a 'professional.' I am not disappointed.
I would point out that the instructions that came with the SCOBY have some conflicting information. In one place it says to use 1 cup of starter liquid, in another it says 1/2 cup, in another 2 cups....I'm not sure it matters much, but for a newbie like me, I'd appreciate very clear instructions without need for interpretation.

My Scoby arrived carefully packaged with easy to follow instructions, and tea bags to get me started with making my first batch/gallon of Kombucha. I waited the full 31 days before bottling my kombucha. It came out absolutely delicious! far better than the kombucha I have been purchasing from the farmers market and the grocery store. I was a little nervous making my second batch (2 gallons), I wasn't sure if my new scoby (the baby)would produce the same high-quality of kombucha as it's mother scoby, but I was pleasantly surprised...it did. I am glad I saved all my store-bought kombucha bottles, all 24 (16 fl oz bottles by GT'S ENLIGHTENED). I was able to make 12 bottles of kombucha from my 2 gallons (after taking out 8 cups to use as my started liquid for my next 4 gallons). I experimented with 2 flavors...adding a little grape juice to a few bottles and a little orange juice to a few bottles...yummy is all I can say!!! I am now brewing my 3rd batch, now 4 gallons. Can't wait to experiment with new flavors. I am saving so much money brewing my own.

The Kombucha Culture that was sent to me was huge and the instructions on how to brew was very helpful. The day I received it, I started my first batch of Kombucha. On the 12th day of brewing I strained it into quart jars and put in the fridge. I serve it by pouring the Kombucha, grape juice (homemade) and seltzer water in equal parts in a glass, it is wonderful! My husband and I have drank 3 gallons of Kombucha and now have 2 more gallons brewing. Something this healthy should not taste so good! Thank you Kombucha Kamp for the good service and a great product.

The end product using Kombucha Kamp's scoby culture and instructions produced the best tasting Kombucha I've ever had, with a reluctant wife who agrees. I had a number of questions during the fermentation stage, since I've never brewed anything in my life. No problem, Kombucha Kamp has a companion web site to answer these common questions and it's also possible to contact their support email if you have something specific you need answered. After 9 days of fermenting, my first batch came out with a pH of 2.78 and I thought it was too acidic, going off what other people say on the internet. However, Kombucha Kamp put my mind at ease with their article explaining pH levels and when I tasted my Kombucha it was off the charts delicious with a nice fizz. My wife was hesitant to try some, but after some prodding, she reluctantly sipped a little bit. Then, she sat there watching until I filled my bottles and wanted what was left over. I'm glad I went with Kombucha Kamp since it was hard to get lost along the way and my fears of contamination/pH levels were put to rest.
