Having said that, I simply went to one of the local health stores, bought some unpasteurized Kombucha, made the tea starter, let it cool, added some of the store bought Kombucha, and that was it. Stored in a mason jar with a paper coffee filter rubber banded to the top and two weeks later was the proud father of a SCOBY. Brewing it weekly now.
Very easy to make yourself and the results are great so far.
I just purchased another one gallon jar and my first set of 12 bottles after growing my first scoby baby. I am so excited about this new hobby/adventure and have been spreading the word to other family and friends in hopes of getting them involved with growing their own amazingly healthy kombucha.
This book is a great book for a beginner and I would recommend it to anyone wanting to learn and get started growing their own kombucha.
I found this book very useful, not only for the creative recipe ideas but because he gave me lots of ideas of other things to try, ways to "think out of the bottle" so to speak. His writing is clear and to the point and entertaining to read. I found it more helpful to have a lot of ideas in one place rather than having to search around the Internet. This is not your mother's kombucha cookbook!
