While at first glance, it may be in your best interest to shop around. Know that when you purchase RAM from Komputerbay, you're getting Grade-A brand name computer memory. Cheap computer memory, while possibly being compatible, can cause system crashes, error codes in your computer, and even damage to your motherboard! This ends up costing you time and money. Trust when you buy from Komputerbay, you are getting top of the line product from a top of the line company.
We test every module before it leaves the building, and back all of our purchases up with a LIFETIME WARRANTY!

There is one thing that does get affected by this upgrade and that is the Intel Rapid Start will not work anymore after you upgrade the ram. There is a solid state device on the motherboard and that is set to a specific amount set by HP, and once you change to more ram that isnt going to work anymore. You can get Rapid Start to function again by changing the solid state device on the motherboard to a larger one but for me I could care less if Rapid Start worked or not. The Rapid Start technology is supposed to bring the computer out of sleep or hibernation mode very fast, but I find that my HP comes out of hibernation in about 6 seconds and thats fine with me I would rather have the performance and be able to run more applications at once than have Rapid Start running. Would have been nice to have it but I don't see any speed difference when I shut down or go into hibernate modes.
So just be aware that if you upgrade an HP laptop that has Rapid Start on it to 16 gigs of ram, you will lose the Rapid Start feature, but thats no big deal. I rather have the 16 gigs of memory.
So far so good with this Komputerbay ram, it's been almost a week and the computer is running fine. The Komputerbay ram has the heat spreaders on it, and that did not have any effect on the install. I put the ram into the slots and both sticks fit perfectly and snapped down in place same as the original ram that I took out, so there is no issue with the heat spreaders. I read a few reviews saying on some laptops the heat spreaders had to be popped off to fit the ram sticks in place but that isnt so on this new HP ENVY laptop.
Overall I am very pleased with this Komputerbay ram, it came in a good snap open plastic case, which is where I put the old ram I took out for safe keeping. The computer runs cool, I don't see any increase in temperatures even when viewing Youtube videos and playing music. I haven't done any gaming on this HP yet, however it's capable of gaming as it has the i7 3rd generation processor, and the Nvidia 650m video card with 2 gigs of video ram, but so far its running very cool. I have a Dell studio 17 that I've been using for 4 years and that machine could fry eggs on the palm rest when you look at Youtube videos but not so on this HP.
I don't think you can beat the price on this ram, or the performance for the money. I was going to get the Crucial Vengence ram but thats a lot more money and I thought I would try this Komputerbay first and see how it runs. It works, and it works very well. Thanks also to Amazon for a speedy delivery of this ram as well. I've been building and working on computers since 1987 so I have a lot of component experience and I feel this ram is a decent product or it wouldn't be in my new HP laptop.
However, it may take you a couple of times to get GOOD working memory. The first set of chips was defective which was confirmed by running a memory test on the chips, as soon as I installed them.
I went through the motions and filled in the information to return the chips, which cost me another $2.50. I sent the report of the failure along with the chips, just in case they wanted to see the information about the failure. Komputerbay sent me out another set, which thankfully passed a memory test and a memory stress test. So, with 16GB, I'm a happy camper, and as stated, you can't be the price.
If you go this route, have patience and plan on returning the initial set of chips in case they don't pass a memory test. If you plan for it, you won't be disappointed when it happens. Give yourself plenty of time and have patience, since the price is good and they have a lifetime warranty.
The price is definitely worth it.
The heat spreaders on these modules are sort of like binder clips -- they're wider at the top edge than at the bottom -- and this extra width will keep the modules from fitting in some laptops' RAM sockets. (Other brands, like Crucial, don't have this shape and are more likely to fit without alteration.) Not wanting to send the RAM back, I tried removing the heat spreader from the top module, figuring that the air would cool it from above and the bottom module's heat spreader, against which it was resting, would remove heat from below. So far, no problems due to overheating. However, vendor should provide a flatter and thinner heat spreader so that they can be left on in all cases.
I would have given it 5 stars if not for a slight issue I had in the beginning. When I first tried to put these two in adjacent slots I noticed that I couldn't fit them. Only one could fit in at a time. It turns out that they were a bit too thick to both fit in adjacent slots, so I had to remove the heatspreader of one of them to enable them to both fit. No big deal, the previous RAM cards I had on my unit didn't have heatspreaders as well anyway.
Currently using them on an Asus G75VW with total memory of 24GB (2x4gb original cards plus this new komputerbay 2x8gb).

This is the second set I've used, and will not be the last. No issues *AT ALL*.
