Konjac powder is an ingredient to thicken sauces and gravies or any other cooked recipe. To use konjac powder as a thickening agent, first disperse it in a little cold water or other "watery" ingredients such as soy sauce, and slowly add it (with constant stirring) to the other ingredients while they are cooking. About 1 teaspoon of konjac powder will gel about one cup of liquid. If you have not used konjac powder as a thickening agent before, it is best to experiment with it by beginning with lesser amounts, and adding as necessary until the desired consistency is reached.

It works great. I've seen some folks complain about taste and that it "gels" too quickly (not this product but other glucomannan powders). The trick is to stir QUICKLY and RAPIDLY then drink it down. As for taste, I've started stirring it into some low sugar orange juice.
It works great for dieting purposes, definitely keeps you "regular," and would certainly work as a thickener for cooking as I've seen some people use it for as well.
Since that time I went off of it, returned to my bad ways of eating, regained the weight, and blood sugar and cholesterol went way up again.
For the past several months I have once again been taking fiber supplements. I had been taking Konjac Glucommanan Powder and have been very pleased with it. But, I decided to try Konsyl again since I can just go to the store and buy it instead of ordering online like I have to do with Konjac Glucomannan.
I do not like taking the Konsyl as well as I like the Konjac Glucomannan. And, there is some differences in the two fibers. Konjac Glucomannan is solely a soluable fiber (which will more effectively lower your cholesterol), while Konsyl is a mixture of both soluable fiber and non-soluable fiber (the non-soluable fiber helps 'sweep' your colon and creates faster transit, while the soluable fiber lowers the cholesterol but doesn't increase the speed of transit).
So, if your transit time is too fast you may want to look more at taking Konjac Glucomannan. But, if your transit time is too slow Konsyl would be better. If you want (more) lowering of cholesterol than Konjac Glucomannan would be the way to go. If you want faster transit along with cholesterol lowering than Konsyl is the way to go.
I have decided to alternate using both products; one product at one meal, the other product at the other meal. So, alternating both products should give me the best of both.

Now, this morning, I took a heaping teaspoon and used a funnel to put it in a water bottle so I could shake it really good. I put the heaping teaspoon in about 12-14 ounces of water. I tried to drink it down as fast as I could, but it gelled up at the bottom before I could drink down that far. I just added a little more water and swished it around and drank the rest. That was at 8:35 am this morning. I've had a few cups of coffee and then at 10:00 am I wanted to eat my yogurt. For fun, I sprinkled a little bit of it in my yogurt. It thickened it up a little, but it was greek yogurt so it wasn't that noticeable. It did make it a little gritty and not as enjoyable, so I will probably stick to just drinking it.
Anyways, after only having coffee, a 160 cal yogurt, and a significant amount of GC, I feel stuffed . So much that I feel like I went out to Denny's for breakfast and cleared my whole plate.Read more ›
