Beautiful Anime Story...
This anime was a 10/10!!! I had already watched it on Funamation but wanted the blu-ray to have it physically. I didn’t realize that it came with nice art postcard in discs. So it was a nice surprise! ❤️ The material it’s made out of it not like photo paper but more like a water color canvas feeling. Which is unique. The story is so good, it tells of three individuals stories coming together by playing in the koto club. It dose have a spark of romance a little which is nice but the story, characters, and music is really what it is all about.

I have not finished season 2 yet but so far this has been a very good anime. Going in I was unsure how I would feel about it because the koto stuff didn’t interest me and I felt like the characters would all be unrelatable. However they completely proved me wrong with Chika. I was never a “delinquent” but his experience with people and his personality is very similar to mine and seeing him deal with all the people who misunderstand him really hit home with me. Seeing his development is cool and the story in this one has been a very touching one. It gets a little too over emotional for my liking at times with some exaggerated tears and such but that’s typical for this type of anime. There is a touch of romance that is also extremely well done in my opinion cause it feels completely realistic. Maybe because I have had a similar experience where a girl didnt particularly like me and had predetermined opinion of me because she never actually interacted with me and was basing everything off appearances and what people said about me. Then by basically a forced interaction(similar to joining the same club and not choosing the members) she got to know me and developed feelings. So like I said the story is a touching and very good one and the characters are all very good. Again Chika is great, Takezo is good and shows some nice development, Hozuki starts shaky but grows on me a lot and is really good, Kota is great and seeing his part in the season finale was very unexpected and cool to see, Sane is cool and the three work well together. Takaoka is awesome, he doesn’t get a lot of screen time but he seems like a really cool guy, and Hiro(I don’t know what it is about the girls) also starts very shaky. I absolutely despised her and just saw her as a completely malicious terrible person, but she was just a very hurt girl that lost herself I guess. When she becomes her real self I really loved her. She’s definitely a different person after the club. They did a great job of working all these different people together and make them one whole group. There is a lot of backstory that gets revealed to help understand characters. Some anime just have an “it factor” that sets them apart as something special in this modern world of anime. There’s basically an unlimited number of anime in this genre(school club/sports/slice of life) and honestly they are all kinda the same and they are all “good” but to be “great” they have to have a special something that “it factor” that you may or may not be able to explain. This one has that “it factor” and is something special. When they can take something like playing a koto that doesn’t interest me and still manage to be great that tells you they did something special with the characters, story, etc.

Speaking as a middle-aged lifelong musician, this anime captures better than any other story I've seen just how powerful music can be. Truly wonderful stuff.
