The board and remote disconnected mid-ride on the first day of riding with absolutely no warning, and fortunately the rider was not injured, though the abruptness of the disconnection in a different situation could easily have caused serious injury. This board moves FAST when it's moving, and the fact that the remote and board can disconnect while riding makes the system potentially very dangerous. Accordingly, I would not recommend this board for anybody.
Further, the remote would not reconnect / re-pair / resync with the board according to instructions provided by the Hoverboard Shop on their website, according to the YouTube video linked to on the Koowheel website, or according to instructions provided directly by Koowheel Customer Support.
I purchased the board in June 2017, around two months after the seller indicated in the Q&A section on Amazon that they were selling the updated version of the board without the disconnection issues. Because of this experience, I would not take that seller's representation at face value. It appears that the boards being sold on Amazon (even after seller's representations that they are selling fixed boards) might have disconnection issues.
The manufacturer's (Koowheel) customer support has been pretty horrible. First, they were very difficult to contact. According to their contact page, they provide a phone number, an email, and a "24/7 Customer Support" chat number. They didn't answer repeated calls to the phone number. They did not respond to my email. And their 24/7 customer support chat number took over a day to respond to me. Second, they were not helpful and even frustratingly disavowed responsibility. When the chat line finally responded, the guy started by sending me another instructional video. When I followed those instructions to a tee and couldn't get the remote to reconnect with the board, he requested a video from me, which I gladly sent. After reviewing the video, he effectively said that I need to contact the seller, and that he couldn't help me because he was just a Koowheel reseller, which doesn't make sense, because the manufacturer's website in the above link directly references that chat line as their "24/7 Customer Support"!
In summary, I would not recommend this board to anyone who's not willing to take a big gamble on both their personal safety and the reliability of the board.
(Update) so far it's held up very nicely even on subpar roads in Northeast ohio. I can't really think of a complaint. PS speed mode is very fast.
I'm very happy with how well it was able to maintain its speed for the most part, a little bit after going below 50% battery I noticed the speed was reduced, but I was still able to cruise home without any issues
If there's one thing that can be improved on this board, it would be the remote. I would like the remote to be a bit heavier and bigger so I don't feel like I'm going to lose it somewhere. It seriously is quite small and I had to put it somewhere where I wouldn't lose it
I'll give another update in 2 weeks, but so far so good
I have not had any issue.
Only thing i would do is make the protective cover for the charging port fix the port.
I assume that if water get in there the board will not charge, that seems very important to me.
I understand there is a Insane mode to this board, I will not be trying that anytime soon, but I am glad it is there for when I am more comfortable with the board.
In normal mode the board is plenty powerful enough.
I weigh about 284lbs and this board moves fast with me on it.
I look forward to riding this board for a very long time.
When I bought this board, I bought a different manufacturers board also.
I had to return that other board yesterday because the motors kept over heating.
I also have been riding this board every day that it is not raining.
I ride it to an from work and all around downtown, that is where i live.
I love this board, I have been having so much fun on it.
i have added LED lights to the front and the rear of the board.
I also removed the grip tape to add a foam grip tape to add a little comfort to the ride.
