Pitchblack Pedal Tuner
The must-have pedal tuner for the guitarist or bassist
High precision and advanced functionality and sleek style make this new guitar/bass pedal tuner from Korg our most advanced yet. The Pitchblack is the same size as a compact effect unit, and features a tough aluminum die cast body that will endure hard use on the road or in the studio.
While small in size, it boasts a large; easy to read LED meter with a light-emitting surface for excellent visibility in any setting from daylight, to stage light to no light as well as an extremely smooth eleven-segment LED meter that allows accurate visual tuning from any angle. With a red LED that indicates the tuner's on/off status, a large note name display, and a tuning guide that indicates whether your instrument is sharp or flat, you'll always be able to tune quickly and accurately in any situation. The Pitchblack provides a tuning range of E0 (20.60 Hz) to C8 (4,186 Hz), and adjustable calibration between 436--445 Hz.
100% True Bypass output keeps your tone intact.
The Pitchblack mutes the input signal for silent tuning, and when you’re not tuning the input is passed directly to the output jack without being affected by any circuitry (True Bypass). So even if you connect the Pitchblack between several of your favorite pedals, the signal will pass without going through the internal buffer amp, ensuring that the sounds you've created using your effects will not be colored in any way. The Pitchblack is designed to coexist transparently with other effect pedals.
Four display modes
- Meter mode - Similar to using a needle meter, tune your instrument so that the green LED in the center of the LED display lights and both tuning guide LED’s are lit.
- Full Strobe mode - Tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and both tuning guide LED’s are lit.
- Half Strobe mode - Tune your instrument so that the LED meters stop streaming and only the green LED in the center is lit and both tuning guide LED’s are lit.
- Mirror mode - Tune your instrument so that the two LEDs on the left and right sides of the center LED meet in the middle and both tuning guide LED’s are lit.
Pitchclip: low-profile clip-on tuner
The compact, affordable, and easy-to-use pitchclip is the latest addition to the popular Korg clip-on family. Simple and user-friendly, the pitchclip offers highly accurate tuning, fast and ultra-responsive results, and excellent visibility. Pitchclip is the choice for every guitar or bass player who desires fast, accurate, and carefree tuning.

But the best thing about this pedal tuner is the size of the display. It is huge. No, really, you won't believe how big and clear the display is until you see it in real life. Pictures don't do it justice. I don't have to worry about dropping my glasses on stage anymore, because the display is like in my face. When it's off, however, it is in fact pitch black.
This pedal is true bypass. If you're going from your tuner straight into your amp, you might consider getting a tuner with a buffer instead (Boss), to prevent loss of volume. Since I already had a few buffered pedals on my pedal board I didn't need another one, so I opted for this Korg Pitchblack.
Another neat feature is the 9v out. Just when I thought my power supply was the king of power supplies with plenty of outputs, I went and got some more pedals. What do you know, my power supply suddenly had no free outputs left. With the 9v dc output from this pedal I was able to power up yet another pedal.
Even though this pedal is ridiculously straight forward to use, it does have some more advanced functions as well; With one button on the back you can adjust the reference pitch. By default it is set to standard A 440, but you can change it to like 436 or 442 or 444 or whatever. I guess it's useful if you're ever going to play with wind or strings players who refuse to conform to present-day standards.
With another button on the back you can adjust how the display tells you if you're flat or sharp. I haven't tried that function yet, so I can't comment on it. These two buttons are small and placed in such a way that there is no way you'll ever touch these by accident. Good thinking, Korg.
It also comes with a battery, and a user manual. Nice.
My only gripe with this pedal is that currently the switch seems to be wearing out. In the past the switch only needed a small tap to activate the tuner. Now however, it requires a solid kick to turn on. This could be due to dirt and debris ingress from constantly playing in basements and on dirty venue floors. That being said, to replace it, i will get another one of these pedals. They are that good.
