This book is printed in the languages spoken by most Kosovars, Albanian and Serbian and English, which is the working language of the UNMIK - United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo. The photographs in this collection were originally taken to publicize the variety of projects UNHCR (United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees) has been able to finance from 1999 to 2001 through the US Bureau of Population, Refugees and Migration (BPRM); these projects have been sponsored by the Kosovo Women's Initiative (KWI) program. This is reflected in the images of women's groups and sewing courses and skills training. The original selection of images of Kosovar women and their lives - to show the context, the effects of war and violence, the wide variety of daily activities undertaken by ordinary women, and the pervasive spirit of positive energies among Kosovar women. Thus, it became a book about Kosovar women and girls as well as a report of UNHCR's role in supporting their projects.
