I used this for my preschooler -- storing a sandwich in one section and some fruits or snacks in the other area. It was perfect for my picky eater who loved seeing the cute face and didn't eat much food. If I wanted to include little bits of sauce or dips like hummus or guacamole, I could NOT use this box. I had to find another. If I had a child who ate a ton, it also would not work without extra boxes!
Also, make sure to handwash. I use the dishwasher because I have two small children and no time, and within several washes, part of the face had started to scratch off or fade!
I also wish they had included a few extra bands to keep it closed. I lost the band within the first two months when my son left it at school.
This box comes exactly as expected with five parts: the lower lid, the upper lid, an inside container with lid and the black band (minus the white eyebrows) to hold it all together.
The box is very cute and a reasonable size. I put crackers and cheese in one section, grapes, yogurt, or tomatoes in the sealed section. But, sometimes the smells from one permeate the other foods. So when I sent in tomato salad, my daughter said that everything tasted like the salad and dressing, even though it hadn't leaked. So I'm more careful with what I put in there.
I have been looking for a small container that will fit inside the interior compartment so I can put in hummus or peanut butter and keep it from smearing on everything else but it is a little short in height and I'm having trouble finding something that fits.
I know mine are not traditional Bento Box lunches but I pack what I know she'll eat.
I saw a bunch of samples where people used silicone backing cups to separate sections. This seems like a cool idea as long as things don't spill out of the top. I guess the key (as with a true Bento lunch) is to pack tightly.
Overall, I like it but it has limitations.
I'm not sure I'd buy it again due to the compartment sizes, but we like it.
The bento box is comprised of a main compartment and a secondary compartment, all of which is held together with a cute little elastic headband.
I would have preferred a locking mechanism as you can easily lose the elastic band, but it does a good job of keeping things together. The secondary compartment has a lid, so you can put your messier things in there.
It's somewhat small and is best designed for light lunches or snacks.
Overall, a cute and fun purchase. The company also makes a cat and frog version, all of which are identical in function.
Note: My item item did not have little "eye brow" marks on the elastic band.
