Directions

1. Boil 12 cups (3 qt) water. Stir in spaghetti. Boil 10 to 12 minutes or until tender, stirring occasionally. Drain well. 2. While spaghetti is cooking, mix Tangy Italian Spice Mix, 1 can (6 oz) tomato paste (2 cans [8 oz each] tomato sauce and 1/4 cup water can be substituted for tomato past and 2 cans water.), and 2 cans (1-1/2 cups) water. Bring to boil. Reduce heat; simmer 10 minutes, stirring occasionally. 3. Pour sauce over spaghetti; sprinkle with Kraft 100% grated Parmesan cheese pouch. Makes about 4 cups. Variations for a thicker, tangier sauce. If using tomato paste: Mix Tangy Italian Herb Spice Sauce Mix, 1 can (6oz) tomato paste and 1 1/2 cans (about 1 1/4 cups) water. If using tomato sauce: Mix Tangy Italian Herb Spice Sauce mix and 2 cans (8 oz each) tomato sauce. Stir-in idea: Traditional spaghetti with meat sauce stir, 1/2 lb ground beef, cooked, drained and 3/4 tsp garlic powder into prepared sauce.

This is the spaghetti that I remember from my childhood. Mom made this. So it goes without saying that I have special feelings concerning this spaghetti dinner. I'm not sure what it is that gives this it's special flavor, but it is incredible, must be something in the flavor packet. So, when I'm feeling homesick, I make up a big plate of this spaghetti. And I can't have it without making garlic toast and serving with a huge ice cold glass of milk. I have a terrible fear that it will be discontinued one day! Woe is me if they do that.

I agree with the lady who stated "This is the spaghetti that I remember from my childhood." I have lived in many states and other countries.

" My "Box" Spaghetti" has been hard to find in many places. It is always something I ask people to send me and I always look to stock up on when I come home. It is a little spicy but Oh So Good; a great comfort food. I am also afraid that they will stop making it, so try it. We need more loyal fans.

Living in the west this product has been very hard to find at times.
Now I order it from Amazon and keep over 100 boxes on hand in the basement.
We eat it every Sunday along with a salad and home made garlic bread.
Its the best. We never get tired of it. It tastes good with or without meat and can also be made with mushrooms added. We have eaten boxes that were over
4 years old and it still tasted great. Great item for your emergency food storage.

If I had to choose a last meal, Kraft spaghetti would be it. Prepared with lean hamburger, it is the food of the gods! I'm sure some will think I'm joking, but I'm not. Why you can't find this in grocery stores is beyond me.

The Kraft Spaghetti dinner is very simple to make It contains an envelope of Italian spices, and dry spaghetti.Their suggested added ingredient is tomato paste. (Here is my suggestion.)

Brown a lb of ground beef, add 2- eight ounce cans of tomato sauce, and the packet of spices. simmer slowly.

During this time the spaghetti should be in boiling water along with an added lb. of uncooked spaghetti.

Ladle the finished sauce on top of a dish of spaghetti and it will treat you to a delicious spaghetti dinner that will beat most restaurants.

This is from the olden days when packaged food was frowned upon. My mom would go to this occasionally when in a pinch. We all loved it and even my dad still picks it up. I recall my brother didn't like the tiny dried onions in the mix so I would push the mix through a sieve to get rid of them. I still believe it is best made with tomato sauce rather than paste.
Now if Kraft would only bring back the Egg Noodles with Chicken dinner and the federal gov't. would open the National Archives records so I could know who really killed President Kennedy I could die in peace. Seriously.

It's still as good as 40 years ago; great taste, and fun to make at that.

If you want that 40-years ago flavor, though, include the item that is omitted from the modern recipe: 1 tablespoon butter in the sauce mix.

Our favorites could not be found at the store any more so it was great to find them available through Amazon.
The one complaint, which is minor, is that they have a December, 2007 expiration date on them. It would have been nice to have this information available before the purchase.
