Penny’s life just flipped. She’s been fired without cause, found by her stalker, and had to engage a lawyer. And her day is about to get worse.

Penny thought life was good until her ex-boyfriend comes into her office with his current girlfriend—her boss—on his arm. When the new girlfriend leaves them alone for a minute, he attacks with alarming brutality, but Penny is the one who loses her job.
After a few weeks, she gets a lawyer, who tells her she can call anytime. So, when she survives an attack by her ex, she calls him, and he meets her at the hospital.
Jax is an alpha with extras, and his situation is similar to Penny’s. He has one appendage that she is aware of—his five-year-old daughter.
Over the course of a week, Penny has to go from nothing to being offered a pack-style living arrangement with Jax, his daughter, and another alpha who also has an aquatic adaptation. If she says no, they will still help but not give up, and if she says yes, she can throw a five-year-old’s birthday party. It’s no contest.

Ms Grace writes well so everything flows nicely. It's a good short story, reliably entertaining with some decent characterisation and a fair amount of sex. If that's what you want for your light reading, then this is a great book

The way a secondary male lead is introduced always feels a bit jarring to me but it's become a bit of a theme in this world-building, the 'one man will not be enough' type of argument. There is also good amount of female-female support and friendship which always feels more true to life, not too much pitting women against each other for the men in their lives.

It is short for the price, and some of the books do feel a bit repetitive especially those with two stories intertwined (not this one). But it's also a very reliable and entertaining way to chill out: you know what you're getting with Viola Grace.

This is the 12th book in the series so a lot of the world-building has already been set in place. You could pick up the series here but should probably start with one of the earlier books. Betas in Waiting is a "spin off" itself from the omega verse series but they all interlink very nicely.

Ms Grace keeps introducing new female characters, but there are still a few from the earlier books with unfinished tales to tell. I'd really like to find out what's happening with them.

I enjoyed this book a lot. Ms. Grace has a great ability to come up with unique storylines and bringing in more and more exotic Hero's and or Alpha's in this storyline. The leading lady in this particular story is Penny and she has been genetically altered by exposure to an exotic Alpha. She has kept her alterations to herself and when she is attacked by a rogue alpha she ends up needing some help from the very alpha who changed her to begin with. There are a lot of steamy scenes and attempts to avoid being caught by the alpha's young daughter as well as the risk of attack from the rogue alpha. It all comes together when the... well you need to read the book to get the rest. lol I suggest this book but to get a good Idea of the storyline you should probably go back to the beginning with No Reservation Part One. The author is extremely prolific so she has a few out there lol enjoy
