In response to the review below: I've been using one Master Key pitchpipe for decades with excellent results. In spite of the revolution of electronic, then digital, tuners, the good ol' Master Key is amazingly reliable for such a cheap, pocket-sized instrument. The one catch is: Yes, it does depend on how you play it. It is a small reed instrument, like a harmonica, and reeds bend if you over-blow them. The correct "technique" for this "pitch instrument" (that's what they call it) is to first inhale a deep breath, then blow into the selected pitch hole very evenly and gently out of the smallest opening one can get one's mouth to make, and it seems to sound better with the silver side up. May all your melodies be on key.

I have purchased and used up several pitch pipes through many years of singing and normally the Kratt Master Key would be my recommendation near or at the top however the last three I have purchased have had tone failures less than six months from purchase, I use a holster and take care to never drop it, I've tried cleaning it but the tone is gone from a couple keys. All lost the "F" key and one the "F" and the "Bb" so I've abandoned the Kratt Master Key pitch pipes and went to the electronic, UPDATE:
Three other people in my chorus (and there are only 30 of us) have had their pitch pipe fail much in the same manner since this review...something has really gone south at Kratt.

I recently bought a dulcimer, and needed something to help me tune the instrument. Yes, there are all kinds of electronic tools out there, but this pitch pipe fits in my case, never needs batteries, can be slipped into my pocket - it's just too convenient not to use.

Now, a pitch pipe requires that you have an ear that can tell when the pitch on the instrument matches the pitch on the pipe. If you want a needle or a digital readout to tell you when you're in tune, don't buy this.

The only reason I didn't go with five-stars is I can't swear to you that the pitches on the pipe are "exact". I'm trusting that Kratt accurately calibrated their pipe, and have no evidence to the contrary. With that warning, this meets my needs.

I have often thought about getting a pitch pipe and recently needed one for a musical I performed in. It's very handy and fun to use. I like the design and selected this particular pitch pipe because it looked easiest to distinguish the desired notes and accurately select them. I would recommend it to others.

As with every Kratt product, this works very well. But, it is important that you get the right one- the C-C is traditionally used for women's group or full choirs. If you're in Barbershop Quartet, you need an F-F. Needless to say, this became a gift to a friend who teaches high school chorus. Remember, research your needs before you buy - here endeth the lesson.

It may take a while to get used to using this pitchpipe, but overall, it gets the job done. A tip I have for new users is to not blow too hard to get the right note, and leave some space open at the corners of your mouth (don't have your whole mouth covering the hole) when you blow. That way, a more solid note should come out.

The low notes (C-Eb) are a bit rough and you have to learn how to blow correctly in order for them not to 'bend.' Other than that, it works great. Case is nice, too.

Not only did both of these I received have non functioning notes but the pitch on the lower notes was questionable. I ended up buyin cheaper ones that were better
