I have several other items and I like them all.
Easy to use for anyone doing that home project. Buy it now and start creating that new ......
I believe there is a newer version of this jig updated in 2022. Probably worth it to check that versioon out before buying this one.
Setting the stop collar on the bit is easy enough using the form on the underside of the jig. I did that and tightened the set screw (UK: grub screw) then ran a test on a piece of scrap. Everything worked just fine. I then proceeded to use the jig on the small cabinet I was building (1/2" thick side panels). Halfway done on the second side, I discovered I could see all the way through the holes!!!! Looking at both sides it was clear that it started off fine, but I could see the progression as the stop collar gradually shifted up the bit. So: TIGHTEN THE SET SCREW REALLY WELL. After creating new side panels, I did just that and it worked fine.
Next, I noticed that there was more tear-out in the holes than I would have liked. Not to the point where I couldn't fix it, but it did require some extra work. So I ran a test putting some blue carpenters tape over the locations to be drilled. That resulted in much less tear-out, so that's going to be SOP from now on.
Lastly, I noticed after assembling the cabinet that putting the 5mm shelf pins in place took some effort, especially if I wanted to get it fully seated. So I ran another test. After drilling all the holes, I put the indexing pin in each hole and wiggled it around in a circle (not using a lot of effort). This made inserting the pins into the holes much easier, without making them too loose. So that too will become SOP for me when using the jig in the future.
With those changes, I think the jig works great, and makes it MUCH easier and quicker to allow for adjustable shelves in casework.
=== The Good Stuff ===
* First and foremost, it is fairly easy to drill a professional-looking series of holes for shelf supports. Previously I had tried it with a drill press and a large table, and there was always one hole that was just a bit off. With this jig, I have drilled large runs of holes- maybe six feet, and they all look perfect.
* The tool fits well against the edge of a piece of wood, and with the indexing pin, stays in place pretty well. I don't bother with clamps, just the index pin and a good grip with my hand.
* I have stuck to the 5mm holes and pins, and have been happy with the holes and the fit. The pins fit snug, and there isn't a lot of tear-out with the holes. However, most all of my work is done on 8 or 10-ply plywood, which I find easier to work with than particle board or MDF. With either of those materials, I can see having to be a bit more careful with the drill.
=== The Not-So-Good Stuff ===
* The jig really needs to be one hole larger. I normally drill every-other hole, and since the index pin takes up one hole, I really only get two more holes per placement of the jig. Since this is a hobby, taking a bit of extra time isn't that big of a deal, but if I did this everyday, I can see the advantage of a second jig clamped to the first one.
* Again, probably not an issue for me, but I could see that the bushing would begin to wear and get sloppy after a bit of use.
=== Summary ===
I get great looking hole patterns for not a lot of work and cost. That counts as a success!

The rail were not useful for me for two reasons: 1. I did not want to take off the doors off my cabinets. 2. Even if I did take the doors off it would not line up with my cabinet. It seemed like each of my cabinets had the holes placed at a slightly different depth (our cabinets were made by a mid to higher end cabinet maker).
Which leads to my solution for this problem. Really it should come with two locking pins instead of one, because I wasn't able to use a clamp or anything like that (because I did not want to take the doors off form the cabinet I was working on and the cabinet next to it). Instead I used a robinson screwdriver, which happened to have the perfect diameter to fit into the existing holes.. essentially making a slightly less functional locking pin.
The hole spacing was perfect from one set of holes to the next and the end product using the tools supplied looks as if it was done in the factory.
I think this would be an amazing product for someone building their own cabinets. For most people I'm assuming they are looking to add more holes to their kitchen cabinets to adjust shelves as they need them.
Ultimately I don't think there is a way for Kreg to make something that would be universal enough to accommodate all the variation that exists in the depth of holes. I think the overall build of the product and quality is top notch and would definitely recommend it. If Kreg included a second pin I would give it 6 stars.
It drills holes accurately enough, but it's irritating that they include a drill bit that has a 1/4" shank with a short section at the tip that allows you to drill the smaller holes for the pins. This just means you need THEIR bit and only their bit. Just annoying and unnecessary.
You can, however, use this jig to drill 1/4" holes, but I won't ever be doing that, that's why I bought the smaller jig, but I think it's only the bit that's different.
The whole jig should also only have square angles. The top surface is about 1/8" smaller in its width and depth, so it's essentially got a slight taper. Because of the design of it, it's a bit of a pain to line up properly because you don't have clean angles on it. There might be a reason for that, but I don't know what it would be, and it seems like a silly design element that takes away from it's performance.
The integrated bit/pin storage works, but it's sketchy. It's a really crappy way to store them, don't trust it in a toolbox with other stuff, it's extremely easy to accidently move the pieces that hold the accessories in.
It's worth it, but it's not as nice as it should be.
My only improvement on this product (If the company happens to look at my review) is that an optional end cap would be nice! It's not hard to line the jig up flush with the top/bottom of my insert, but I lack confidence so it'd be nice to just KNOW it's lined up perfect.
