Most dark romances leave me cringing or rolling my eyes at the overkill, but not Krinos. Worth much more than I paid.
I really loved this book from start to finish. A badass Heroine, a possessive, sexy, alpha bad boy, and a killer storyline.
Krinos is taking over her father's business, but not everyone wants a girl in charge. The crime factions felt authentic, and the author stayed true to the heroine she created, keeping her strong yet lovable. Stefanos (insert dreamy sigh) was intense, devoted, and definitely an alpha male you go to bed dreaming about. And the sex... Wow.
Editing was fantastic, the story flowed beautifully without any lulls, and you almost literally sit on the edge of your seat while reading it.
I love the cover, love the story, and love the writing style. I can't wait for more
How does a mega-wealthy drug lord allow the daughter and woman he still loves, although doesn't live with, to live in what is referred to as a rough area - why would he not make sure they were taken care of?
As the purported successor to her father's empire, how would Krinos be respected after her one-night stand takes retribution for her after she's brutalized? Not to mention her having so little self-control as to beg a police detective to have sex with her.
And after being kidnapped and brutalized, does it make sense that she'd go off and get wasted at a club? And that at that club Krinos would run into that police detective who's out with his sisters and that one of his sisters would give Krinos drugs? Or what about the fact that Krinos would take those drugs even though she's already told us that she doesn't do drugs?
Seriously, that only touches the surface of things I thought were unbelievable and inconsistent with this story - total shame, too - because the storyline had a lot of potential.
It also appears that this may be one of those series that piece-meals bits of information. This book was free for roughly 150 (?) pages, but book 2 is $1.99 for roughly 76? I guess it's for the best that I didn't get into it.
5 Flames for HOTness!
<I received and ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review>
This was a fabulous beginning to a series. I was sucked in at page one. Eliza “Krinos” is a sassy and bad chick. (I love a good strong female lead and Krinos is it) But most of all she is the ultimate daddy’s girl. Krinos loves her dad and is in the process of taking over as boss of his drug dealing business. She is sent to the east coast to do business and meets her match Stefanos. Stefanos is sexy and powerful. He has a dark demon living inside of him. He is cold and shots and asks questions later. Stefanos and Krinos waste not time getting down to business and ALL of the action begins to unfold. Their chemistry is off the charts. Stefanos quickly decides that Krinos belongs to him.
This story is very quick paced. I felt at one point I needed more details (my reason for 4 stars instead of 5). I am not complaining by any means I hardly ever get to say I am left wanting more description. With that said, please be aware that this has a cliff hanger ending but all three books are now out so buy the other two so you can quickly get the complete fix. T.L. gives us suspense, mob violence, hot sex and the unfolding of a love story in the page-turner Krinos.
Krinos is tough but she really wants to be loved. It just takes her a while to figure things out. I was on the edge of my seat in some of the scenes in this book. Stefanos was a knight in shining armor. Stefanos loves hard and nothing will get in the way of what he wants. This book has several laugh-out loud moments as well as some very frightening ones. You want retribution right along with these characters.
I would recommend this book as it is a great start to an anticipated series. I will be check out the other books in the series, as well as, some of T.L. Smith’s other work.
My Favorite Quotes:
He walks over to me, very professionally, and just as he gets to me, his rough, calloused fingers lift up my now-gaping mouth. I look him in the eyes and see the smile in them. “I know its hard, sweetheart, but try to keep you mouth shut,” he whispers near my ear; now, that pisses me off.
“Princess, I don’t wear knickers, so there can only be one thing down there getting in a knot. Feel free to untangle it anytime,” he says
“I will claim you, Princess, and there is nothing you can do about it. I will own your soul.”
“A person like me doesn’t just touch one’s soul, Princess; I devour it, claim it, own it.”
He kisses me for breath, he kisses me for life, and he kisses me for my soul. This is no our usual kiss. This is laced with more, oh so much more.
When I look at him, I see everything I want; I see a man who fights for what he loves, fights to keep what he loves and most of all, loves hard.
BUT there was nothing the cover or synopsis could do to make this book good. The writing was amateurish and just off (hard to explain but it just didn't read right). Yes, I know it's a work of FICTION but none of this was believable. I kept shaking my head throughout the entire book (yes, I finished the entire thing). I would ask for a refund for the waste of my time but I'm a grown up and I own my mistakes and buying this book was a definite mistake.
I am in no way tempted continue this series as the rest will probably be just as bad.
