Dangerous! Do not purchase! You'll end up in vet ER

I have had this for just over 2 months, used about 4 tomes a week to administer Huey's Formula pill for cat herpes respiratory symptoms. My cat swallowed the silicone 1.4 inch tip yesterday and I had to rush her to the ER at 7:30 am. I have used it properly. It shot off the pill pusher base and she swallowed it with pill attached. Luckily, she was able to vomit it back up with prescribed medicine and she is fine but what a scare!

With a little ingenuity, best pill solution I've found for my cat

Verified Purchase

Problem: Cut a tiny white pill into exact halves. One half of pill crumbles to dust. Force other half down throat of Bengal with dagger claws. Repeat twice a day.
Result: Massive blood loss from lacerations on arms and face from aforementioned Bengal.

Solution: Order this pet piller. Order empty #4 gelatin capsules. Place pill half (or pill dust if the pill falls apart) in gel capsule. Pull back plunger. Place capsule completely inside rubber tip (again, after the plunger has already been pulled back). Cradle Bengal like baby. POP! Down her throat before she knows what is happening.

My wife and I tried several solutions before working this all out. Not only were our cat's pills tiny white things, they had to be cut in half so there was no pill popper that would effectively dispense them. We initially used pill pockets which worked well for about a week. Then our cat simply refused them, I suspect because she didn't like the taste of the medicine inside.

The gelatin caps have several benefits:
- No bad medicine taste for kitty
- Can be filled with multiple meds at once or with crumbles from failed pill cuttings
- Easy to swallow
- #4 is a perfect fit for this dispenser. Though #4 is pretty tiny, so it doesn't hold much. The pills I have are about 1/4" in width, and to fit an entire one of those into the capsule you would have to cut the pill into two pieces. I'm pretty confident larger capsule sizes would fit the piller, given the flexibility of the its rubber tip.
- The gel cap is such a tight fit that the air piston of the pill popper literally shoots the medicine down her throat. One brief swallow and she is done with minimal stress to all parties.
- Should you miss the target, an encapsulated pill is easier to locate than the tiny pill piece

As for this specific pill dispenser, the finger and thumb rings make it much easier than others to keep hold of while balancing an unhappy cat, and the rubber tip is much gentler on their mouth than a hard plastic tip. We've used this popper for a couple weeks now, twice a day, and it hasn't let us down yet.

We are happy enough with it that we went ahead and ordered a second as a backup in case the first gets misplaced.

VERY DANGEROUS TO CAT

VERY DANGEROUS TO CAT. It worked fine at first, but less than a month after I started using it, the silicone piece that holds the Azodyl pill, shot off with the pill, down my cat's throat and he swallowed it! I am praying I do not have to resort to surgery which will be a traumatic experience for the cat and cost me thousands of dollars. SHODDY dangerous construction. No excuse for this happening.

It's a "Single Use Only" device

Nowhere in the advertisement or write-up for this pet piller are the words "Single Use Only". I only discovered those words after the piller was delivered to us. They are molded into the barrel of the piller. As a single use device it's likely not to have longevity. And more than likely that's the reason so many fellow purchasers have complained the the device fails shortly after it is put into daily use.

Works perfectly for cats with a little alteration

I bought this syringe for my daily medication of my 2 cats. Tried a few times with complete lack of success and chalk it off as a another failed purchase and put it aside. Problem I had with the syringe was that, I believe it is designed really for a dog's mouth as the tip was offly long for a cat. So, when I tried to hold the cat with one hand and hold the syringe in the other, I was failing due to not having a third hand to open the cat's mouth as my syringe hand was no use since due to the length of the syringe's tip, my syringe holding hand was way too far from the cat's face force the mouth open.
Problem solve when I removed the soft tip and cut down the rigid plastic down to 1/2" or so, also cut down the green pusher inside to accommodate the new length of the syringe including the soft tip. Now, my syringe hand is close enough to the face of the cat where I can use my fingers from the syringe holding hand to support the opening of the mouth and easily stick the syringe in.
It may be the perfect size for a dog but if you want to use it on a cat, will work much better after you reduce the length of the tip.
Now, I get to enjoy the 100 percent success rate with my cat meds, compared to 1 fail out of every 3 attempts.

Did not receive the item as shown.

The item I received was not as shown. Instead of a blue rubber tip, it had a longer, clear flexible plastic tip.
The reason this is important is that we had an incident where the tip came loose during use. The clear plastic is not as flexible. I used it to give our cat a pill that is larger than usual: Cosequin for cats. The large capsule barely fits into the open end of this pill popper.
When I pressed the plunger to give the pill to our cat, the pill holder popped off as well. Our 12 year old brown tabby swallowed both.
When I removed the piller and saw that the pill holder was gone, I was shocked! I rushed our cat to the animal hospital and had him examined.
That was a month ago. It is absolutely no fun digging through litter pans to find out whether an object is lodged in your cat's digestive system.
Our veterinarian thinks that the smaller, blue flexible tip holds the pill less tightly and would not have come loose.... And would be less of a problem if it did get swallowed.
