Wondering what the difference is between the Standard vs. New U? I was so I searched on the Internet and Kryptonite's site and found almost no difference other than the New U is 4 oz lighter. From the Kryptonite site here are the descriptions of their deadbolts:
Description for Standard: "Hardened DOUBLE DEADBOLT DESIGN gives additional protection against twist attacks"
New U: "Patent-pending HARDENED DOUBLE DEADBOLT design gives additional protection against twist attacks"
So one is patent pending and the other isn't? Or did they just apply for the patent later and forget to update the description for the Standard?
Well now that I've received my Standard, I would say the New U gives more protection from twist attacks. That is, after sawing once through the U, how easily can a thief twist the cut U out of the way and steal the bike? Watch the video on the New U and observe the flattened ends of the U which should provide additional resistance to twisting. The Standard has a U with round ends (see attached photo); only the part that contacts the deadbolt will resist twisting. How much extra protection will the New U provide vs. the Standard? I don't know. Kryptonite rates both as security level 8. But I wish I had known of this difference before I bought one. Kryptonite should do a better job explaining the difference. Instead of both descriptions saying "additional protection against twist attacks," maybe they should delete the word "additional" from the Standard description.
And be careful of price when you're buying: the New U price fluctuates between $82 (almost as much as the higher security, and higher weight, New York New U) and $68, and the Standard has varied between $66 and $40, all in the last 6 months on Amazon. So the price difference between the two models can be negligible, or quite substantial.
Overall though the Evolution Standard seems like a very good lock -- replacing my ancient (~1990) Kryptonite-4 which has an easily pick-able cylindrical key!
Registering the keys on Kryptonite's website is easy and free. If you ever lose the keys you can easily have new copies shipped to you.
The anti-theft program is also easy to set up. I purchased three years of protection for $15. If the bike is ever stolen because the locks failed, the entire price of my bicycle will be given to me. The maximum amount of money covered for this particular lock is $2500.
The lock it self is well constructed and well designed. The lock comes with three keys, once of which is lot by an LED. The LED key feels a bit cheap and doesn't always perform very well. The other keys are just fine. The bottom line is that this lock is very difficult to defeat, even with power tools.
Disclaimer: all locks can be broken but I'd say this is a pretty safe bet if you dont live in huge cities. (even then I bet it would give a good thief a long run for his money) I live in a good sized midwest city and have had no problems.

Unfortunately on very first use, having seen abuse no more stern than a single morning's dew, it failed. In the locked position...
Eventually after several days' worth of attempts to open it, by several people, using both the keys we'd taken with us, we were obliged to ask Center Parcs staff to persuade it with an angle grinder. They couldn't have been more helpful...
... Unlike Kryptonite who have no UK helpline, and who took over a WEEK to respond to our submission on their help page - at which point they had nothing more helpful to offer than quarterly lubrication tips.
Meantime we did ping them via twitter, which they "only" took a day and a bit to respond to. However not much more help - said they'd refund any removal charges and replace the lock. All about as useful as a choccy tea pot as they made zero moves or suggestions towards actually helping us release the bike (thank goodness we were at CP not somewhere remote!), and I'd have to be crazy to lock a bike up with one of these again! Returning both to Amazon rather than filling in Kryptonite's online forms, don't see why I should continue the discussion with them!
One of the keys is a little awkward to get working, but it comes with 3 keys so it's not really a problem. The rest work fine.
As long as it's locked properly - Triangle, Wheel, and Shack.
The attachment rattles a bit when going over rough gravel, as expected. Not a problem for me.
Heavy in comparison but better safe than sorry.
AGAINST: Bracket (ignore instructions that come with it instead youtube how to fix bracket onto bike) - Heavy - Smaller locks might be more comfortable when riding
