Editorial Reviews

Raj [Abhishek Bachchan] lives in New York with his mother, Dr. Malhotra [Suhasini Mulay]. They are very close and share a great rapport. But there is one issue they can't see eye to eye on: his mother wants him to settle downÂ… Raj won't hear of an arranged marriage. When Raj visits India for his cousin's wedding, his maternal uncle [Satish Shah] emotionally blackmails him into agreeing to arrange meetings with eligible girls. To make matters worse, the person his uncle chooses as the matchmaker and go-between for these meetings is the one person Raj has already antagonized in his 24 hours in Mumbai. That person is Namrata [Aishwarya Rai], Raj's uncle's favourite employee at his design studio. She is only too happy to put Raj through this torture. After a series of meetings with potential brides, it becomes apparent to Namrata that finding a match for this particular suitor is not only a nightmare, but an exercise in futility. A man who does not believe in marriage and a woman who can'tÂ… Can true love find a way? In a light-hearted journey that offers honest answers to questions about love and the quest for a perfect mate, KUCH NAA KAHO is a heart-warming offering from debutant director Rohan Sipy.

This movie was great. Kuch Naa Kaho (Say No More) was my second bollywood movie (if you count Bride & Prejudice as full-on bollywood) and I enjoyed it so much I've actually sat through it twice already (to inform the reader, i am a manly man who lives and breathes sports; watching a 2 and half hour flick with sub-titles is a big deal for me, as well as a step up in my social evolution, 'cording to my girl). I'm not saying that I've become a full-on bollywood fan, just an ardent Aishwarya Rai slave.

Anyway, the basic plot: Raj lives in America and is tricked into going to India to go to his sister's wedding, suspecting all the while that his matchmaking uncle'll try to marry him off. He meets Namrata (Aishwarya Rai) by a cute coincidence; later, Namrata is talked into guiding/babysitting the reluctant Raj as he dates the five women set up by his uncle; of course, it turns out the perfect chica for him is Namrata; but then there's a little twist...

The first two hours mostly pass in comedic fashion, now and then interrupted by song & dance numbers, then it segues into soap opera drama in the final 30-40 minutes. By the way, I just realized I haven't even mentioned the lead actor's name. It is Abhishek Bachchan and, apparently, he is the son of a famous actor (the director, Rohan Sippy, is also the son of a famous director). Abhishek as Raj does a pretty good job. I found myself liking the fella, even though he was romancing the girl of my dreams (I'm sure I have a shot; after all, I am a manly man). Abhishek's sense of humor shines through (check out the "making of" on the bonus dvd to see how laid back and cheerful this cat is) but he also holds up well in the dramatic scenes.

I recommend this movie to anyone who likes a good, memorable laugh! It's suitable for the entire family. Abhishek does a fabulous job. The ways in which he deflects the interest of his potential brides are clever and oh-so hilarious! I still laugh at his encounters every time I have a chance to replay this movie. It's also a story of love and Aishwarya's acting is wonderful (not one of her best, best though). There's a twist in the movie and it really shows how versatile these two actors can be. The two make a great pair.

I also recommend movies such as "Dhaii Akshar Prem Ke," which stars both of them. Superb acting by Aishwarya (& Ajay Devgan) can be found in "Dil De Chuke Sanaam." Abhishek movies I also recommend are "Yuva" (superb all around cast & acting in this movie, but not suitable for children as there are violence and sexy scenes) and "Bunti Aur Babli" (another comedy in which there's an appearance by Aishwarya & stars Abhishek).

This movie was excellent!! It was hilarious, fun, serious and just a pleasure to watch - you get drawn right in from the very beginning. I watched it twice! Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan were great together. It was so cute watching them - they were so natural. The choreography was awesome and the music was chosen so well. They make you want to dance with them at times. I really enjoyed the story line and thought this director did a great job portraying the emotions of the characters - I can't wait to see more from him. This was not the normal Indian arranged marriage movie. There was so much more to the story and it also had a funny, but serious twist. This movie was very thought provoking and many will be able to relate well. It is worth adding to your collection! Hope you enjoy as much as I did.

I admit it, I was surprised at how good this movie was. This was my first bollywood movie ever, I have yet to see even Bride & Prejudice. It wasn't nearly as over the top as people told me it would be. I enjoyed Raj's antics, even though his incredible, pathetic, story about how he needed that last seat on the plane because his son Babloo was sick from a heart attack had me rolling my eyes with a groan. I was outright laughing in the school scene when Raj lived up to Adi's boasting and jumped from the roof of the school and then had to kick a soccer ball back up onto the roof. It's a good thing for Namrata that Raj really did love her, because she was so stupid sometimes and stubborn that many a man would have walked away. All in all, even though this movie was surprisingly long, at 2 hours and 46 minutes, It's well worth the time to watch it.

I loved this. It had small "cheesy" moments, but I could overlook them because as a whole the movie was wonderful.

At the beginning I believed that it was certainly going to be "behind the times", but it quickly progressed into a cute matchmaking story that I thought I had figured out. Then there was a twist. And THEN, just when I thought it was almost over - TWIST AGAIN!

This movie had humor, romance, drama, heartbreak, and thankfully a happily ever after. And I loved the musical/ dance parts as well.

Yes, I know I'm being a little vague, but I don't want to spoil it!

Suffice it to say that I am hooked. I will definitely be watching more from the Indian cinema genre.
