GREAT filter for traveling! So compact!

This collapsible filter is perfect for traveling! I like to brew my own coffee in hotel rooms so I can enjoy my favorite flavors of ground decaf. I have traveled with a plastic filter cone for years but always wished it didn't take up so much space in my bag. This product is exactly what I needed. I've tried it out and it works just as well as a plastic one but folds down so compactly. While it is being used, it feels very stable and doesn't run the risk of collapsing. Yet it is easy to fold down when you are ready to store it. I plan to keep this in my travel bag permanently! Now whenever I visit relatives that don't drink coffee (nor own have a machine), I can bring this along with my baggie of coffee and filters and I am all set to make myself a cup whenever I want.

Some reviewer mentioned not fitting well on their travel coffee mug. I can see how that might happen if you have a narrow mug. You may have to be careful when you place the filter on top of your mug to make sure the holes are inside the cup. I measured the distance from the outer edge of one hole to the outer hole of the another, and it is a bit over 1 1/4", if that is helpful for anyone.

Great space-saving option

This little coffee gadget is handy. I am NOT a particularly discerning connoisseur of coffee, but I enjoy a cup every day, most often from McFastFood. I decided that $1 a day (or more often) adds up, and I decided to try this SlickDrip. I previously owned a small 4-cup Mr. Coffee and used it for years. It eventually became difficult to clean and I chunked it.

Enter SlickDrip.
1. Easy to use but requires constant attention. Once I watched a few YouTube videos, I felt good about making coffee with this thing, but you don't just push a button and wander off while the coffee drips. This requires 3-4 minutes of pouring and waiting, pouring and waiting.

2. I've had no issue with the SlickDrip at all. Easy to clean, easy to collapse and store. I'm a bit impatient, so I've filled it nearly to capacity several times, and I've had NO issue with leaks or collapsing.

My only issue is it is taking me some time to find my balance. How much water, how much coffee, how to keep my water the right temp, etc. I don't have a kettle, so I pour my water from a small pot and it starts to cool during the dripping process (whereas my Mr. Coffee kept it warm in the carafe).

All in all, it works. I'm not 100% sold on the technique, but like I said before, I'd be perfectly content with fast food coffee if it weren't for the cost.

UPDATE: AUGUST 2016
This little pour over is still going strong. I've only had one incident of coffee leaking out/down the side of my cup. I think it was because my Slick Drip was wet, allowing the coffee to travel out to the edge and spill.

I mostly rinse after each use and set it on a towel to dry. Once a week, I wash thoroughly with soap. I rarely collapse the cone, only occasionally when I actually need to store it in a drawer. Overall, still glad with this purchase.

UPDATE: SEPTEMBER 2017
This gadget is going strong. Again, once every so often it will totally spazz out and leak/run down the side of my mug. I still don't know what causes it. When that happens, I give the silicone dripper a good scrub with a plastic scrubby (I suspect build-up might be messing with the flow of the coffee?) Once I do that, I seem to be fine again or another few months. It's a mystery, but a messy one (especially when you experience a massive leak off the countertop and down the side of your cabinets/oven). I have taken to placing my mug in the sink while my coffee drips, just to be on the safe side.

Most lightweight of the collapsible silicone drip coffee cones

I spent some time trying to choose between this product and two other similar products--the GSI Outdoors Collapsible Java Drip Coffee Maker and the William Bounds Sili Gourmet Silicone Collapsible Coffee Filter Holder. I was purchasing this as a gift for my father, who does a lot of travel coast to coast, and normally brings a standard rigid plastic Melitta #2 filter cone with him to make coffee wherever he goes. This collapsible version seemed like a perfect travel accessory. At first I had ordered the GSI Outdoors product because I liked the idea of the lid that would double as a drip tray, but when I received the product, I was surprised how bulky it was. I was picturing it as really compact, for space saving in my dad's luggage, and this one just did not fit the bill. So, after scrutinizing the product descriptions of this SlickDrip versus the William Bounds model, trying to figure out which would be more compact (but with no definite answers because the product dimensions listed are for the packaged item as it is shipped, not the actual product), I ordered them both to compare side by side. Here are the specs for all three products:
- SlickDrip: 3-1/2 oz. 4-1/2" diameter x 21/32" tall. Made for #2 filter.
- William Bounds: 3-5/8 oz. 4-1/2" diameter x 20/32" tall. Made for #2 filter.
- GSI Outdoors: 4-3/4 oz. 5 7/16" diameter x 29/32" tall. Made for #2 or #4 filter.

Really the SlickDrip and William Bounds versions were pretty interchangeable, very similar in size and design. The SlickDrip just slightly won for me because it weighed a fraction less, and I liked the cheerful orange color (wouldn't be hard to spot in the depths of a dark suitcase). The William Bounds comes in a choice of red or black; the black might be a good choice if you're worried about stains, not sure if the orange or red colors might stain over time. The only way I'd see a reason to choose the GSI Outdoors model would be if you actually want the option of using a #4 filter, or if the drip tray is important to you--but to me, the extra inch in diameter and over an extra ounce of weight compared to the other products was just not worth the drip tray.

Silicone is safer than plastic and unbreakable compared to glass, I like to pour over boiling water and make a cup at a time myself so love these. There are two holes it drains through so I pour slowly so not to have it too weak. One hole would be better.
