He did try chewing it though many times, and when he gets hyper he tries to scratch the canvas, but he can't break through - and not for lack of trying. Let's put it this way - this is a dog that "ate" an entire couch. He loved his couch, but he chewed on it whenever we were gone. This bed was our last hope for something comfortable for him.
He uses it during the day for naps and eating treats, and then at night he waits for me to put it in his crate for sleeping! We put a little blanket on it for him and he just sinks in and sleeps. Needless to say, we highly recommend this bed - me and my buddy Pete!
Here is a size reference since I had a hard time figuring out which size to order for my dogs:
Finn- 115lb great dane- XXL bed
Lexi- 90 pound lab/great dane/piranha - XL bed
Update: Bed is still holding up 3 years later. It lives outside all year long in Colorado. It does build up snow/rain and this needs to be dumped off as it will not drain out the bottom. This is the trade off for not having a mesh bottom but due to the destructive nature of our little dog, mesh wouldn’t work. Unfortunately our big dog recently passed away. She was 119 lbs but the bed still held her without touching the ground. She needed help getting off near the end but could still get herself on just fine. I still rate it as an excellent buy.
As soon as I set mine up, Jack jumped right up. The bed makes a rustling sound if a dogs turns around on it, and during the night when I hear him settling down on his bed, it makes me happy that he is so comfortable :-)
What I REALLY love about these beds is how easy to clean they are! If you've ever washed a stuffed dog bed or messed with one that's filled with cedar, you know what a pain they are to keep clean. I've stopped up my washer with a huge dog bed that came apart in the wash.
All you have to do with this one is spray it down and wipe it off with a damp cloth. Or just take it outside to spray it off!
The beds look more attractive than a dingy old cloth bed, too. See my attached video and photos for my happy Jack on his bed(s)!
**I've relied on reviews for years, but am only just now starting to write them myself. Thanks to everyone who takes the time to write reviews; I hope mine was helpful!**
The set up wasn't bad. Was kind of a pain holding the tightening nut while screwing in bolts at same time but that was the worst of it.
*Does seem to be sturdy.
*Easy to wipe hair off (which was a huge reason I got this. I was washing the bedding covers 2x a wk for their foam bed and couldn't get the hair out that's embedded in them...mind you they are only 3 months old....)
*Looks very easy to clean
*Good height to get them off floor but not to tall to discourage them (they are 9 &10)
*Size. This is probably the main thing that disappoints me. Though I read sizing prior, it just seems small for a $100 XL bed. Their prior foam bed is an XL and bigger. When i put it on top of Kuranda it's noticeably bigger and hangs off. To size compare I included pics for you guys.
* It was a pricey bed. $100 is not cheap for a dog bed for sure.
I plan to keep foam bed and put on top of Kuranda for bed time since they do love the foam bed and have them use just the Kuranda during day while I'm at work. I hope this helps someone!!!
