The horizontal type, like my 8004, is better for greens, a little easier to clean as it has less parts/surface area, and can make pasta, purees, nut butter etc but its significant slower than my KSJ due to the smaller feed chute, auger, etc. If you want to make lots of juice, juice mixtures, or like to juice fruit the KSJ is certainly worth the extra money over a horizontal type and a no-brainer over the older, more expensive Hurom/Omega design. I was using my horizontal machine 2-3 times/day for mixed juices - with the Silent Juicer I can make the same amount in one juicing but a strainer is required unlike the horizontal machine which doesn't have enough pulp to make a difference to warrant a strainer. Some people think both horizontal and vertical machines need to be strained and my 8004 actually came with a strainer for the juice catch cup - you'll have to make the personal preference call but I favor strained juice with vertical auger juicers - its worth the extra step for the results!
As I said before, I've used the competing Omega 330 and in the real/non-marketed world these competing vertical masticating juicers all perform about the same - there is no significant difference in performance in regards to yield, pulp in the juice, or clean up time. The KSJ is better designed - larger in-house built motor [smaller motors burn out more often especially in frequent use], larger auger, larger pulp port that doesn't clog as fast if you are juicing stringy produce(tip: cut produce fibers in smaller pieces if this is a problem for you), various extra safety features, membrane covered power switch, Tritan BPA-free components(juicing bowl/pulp cup/juice cup), and it cost $60 less than the Omega VRT330HD! You can't go wrong with either an Omega or a Kuvings vertical auger juicer but its important to note these advantages since juicing performance is virtually same. For beginners you'll also be happy with the better documentation and free recipe book - I did not use either much as I am pretty familiar with juicers.

It really struggles with the more fibrous veggies, like kale. It also struggles with berries such as blueberries and strawberries. For those, I end up having to use a strainer on the juice that comes out since there is so much pulp, especially from the blueberries. In fact, the blueberries seem more 'pulverized' than juiced, as if some of the skins come through the juice side instead of go out the back side. And yes, I'm certain I have it setup correctly (I am a test engineer by profession).
More troublesome is how often the unit jams up with veggies. You have to cut everything into really small pieces and wait until each one goes through before loading more. And then switch in some apple slices in between veggies does help. While this technique works, it does take a long time to make any appreciable amount of juice.
Clean up was more work than I had hoped, though with practice I am getting that part completed more efficiently.
Also, checkout this video: [...] I see I'm not the only one that has issues with it freezing up and howling during juicing. And note the large amount of pulp that comes out of the Kuvings juicer into the juice at the 40:00 minute mark in this video. Also, watch at 33:00 where it pops the top off. You really need to feed this juicer slowly to prevent this.
In summary, I can't really say I recommend this unit, especially if you plan to use it for the more fibrous veggies. Also, even though I only use it about 1-2x a week, I've noticed the parts are wearing and there is more play in the fit between them than there was when it was new. I suspect it will not last a long time at this rate, and judging from other recent reviews, it seems that others are having issues as well. Thanks for reading.
UPDATE: This Kuvings did an Ok job on fruits at first, and we made apple and orange juices without much issue when it was new. But now after only a couple months of use, it is basically just making puree and no longer 'juice'. I get very little juice now, and am working with Kuvings on a refund. I'll update status after I hear back from them.
UPDATE2: I was able to return my Kuvings 750 thanks to Amazon's terrific customer service (Amazon is top notch as far as customer service goes!). Kuvings on the other hand tried to get me to remove this review, but I stand by my review since it honestly reflects the experience I had with this juicer.
