I bought a screw kit that enabled me to screw through the carpet, to tighten the subfloor to the studs (that product worked great). However I learned that loose subfloor to the studs was not the problem. Luckily (for this project) my basement is not finished so I had access to the floor from underneath.
After a bunch of detective work (I'm just a weekend DIY hack) I realize the squeak was coming from about 25 nails that were hammered through the subfloor and not into a stud. The nails were sticking through the floor anywhere from 1/4" to about 1.5". I was surprised to learn how much horrific noise these 25 little demons could actually make!
Many of the nails were very near to duct work and wiring so it was no easy access to many of them. A standard hammer had ZERO chance of pulling these nails through the floor. This of course included the head of the nail that had to be pulled through the subfloor.
The Kwick Gripper not only accessed all nails but pulled them through with minimal effort. The hardest part was that I was doing the project "upside down"
After getting every nail I could find the squeakl was GONE!! This was the best $30 I think I may have ever spent since I was ready to call out a professional to solve my noisy floor.
If I never used this bad boy again it would be a GREAT purchase! I'm very pleased with its performance and would recommend it to anyone with any similar type of need.
