I liked this slicer okay but it could be better built, even at this price. I decided to make a video review in order to show it in action. Even though my mandoline is Black I decided to review this one as well since they both work the same way. I hope that you find it useful. Thanks!
I guess I forgot to turn my remote mic back on for the Bron mandoline piece. Sorry about that.
Bron Original Stainless Steel Mandolin Slicer
CUT RESISTANT GLOVES-100% KEVLAR®, Heavy Weight Textured Blue Latex Coated, large, (1 pair)
Fit's nicely in the drawer, and carefully hand washing is the only way I have cleaned it. Really cleans up so easy I wouldn't bother putting it in the dishwasher, may crack plastic after a while. I use a rubber band to hold the clear plastic piece over the blade so when reaching in the drawer you won't cut yourself. That is my only reason for not giving five stars, wish you had a way to clip the top piece on or somehow make storage safer. I have been using this at least 3-4 times a week and not disappointed at all, if I ever lose this I would buy it again, great price.
I may give up and try to figure out a way to retrofit this with a new adjustment bar, but in the meantime, it's getting very little use. (I'd been hoping to use it for making French onion soup, but the slices are just far too thin.)
It was a good object lesson for my young daughter, who was in the kitchen talking to me at the time, about how important it is to watch what you're doing when dealing with cutting devices. And everyone in the family learned about the extreme density of capillaries in the human fingertip. I, personally, had no idea how much fingers bleed -- it makes the scalp look like a slacker. Plus, now I get to have the experience of typing with nine fingers for the next week or two, to find out first-hand what that is like. It really is an excellent learning experience all around.
No, really, I recommend this product wholeheartedly. Just keep your eyes on what you're doing.
I have a set of cut-resistant gloves on order now.
I deduct one star for the absurd "finger guard" which is useless, at best. I cut a slice off the tip off my finger (thin enough that it didn't bleed, which should tell you something about the sharpness) the first time I tried to use it. Save your fingers and buy a cut-resistant glove.
