I've shopped around and looked absolutely everywhere for different multi-pens and own about a dozen. Including THREE Lamy 2000 Multi-pens.
It's absolutely the BEST LOOKING multi-pen. The others tend to look far too technical or sterile. The brushed fiberglass and stainless barrel of the Lamy 2000 has a distinct, timeless look to it while the solid stainless clip has a really assertive look it whether clipped to papers or your shirt pocket.
The only other one I think looks great is the Lamy Accent.
One of the other reviews referenced the weight as being light and feeling plasticky - well, I prefer the light weight over the heavy feel of my Rotring in my shirt pocket. As far as the sound of the mechanism, I don't think it's significantly different from the sound of the other multi-pens I have with the same mechanism. You rotate the barrel to select the color rather than having multiple sliders on the exterior of the barrel. This means you keep the super clean look.
There is one flaw.
This is not the most robust pen out there. The barrel, although fiberglass, isn't as strong as the metal barreled multi-pens. I've cracked two. Also the top part with the pocket clip can come loose. This has happened once.
Lamy, however, has absolutely outstanding repair service and have never charged me for repair (If I recall correctly they charged me something like $6 for return shipping)
Since I have the others, it wasn't a huge deal.
Why do I have three? I thought I lost #1 and bought #2. Then I was in Germany in 2000 when the $ was strong so what the heck - I bought #3 for something like $40. Some time later I find pen #1 in the pocket of a suit I seldom wear! Bonus!!!!
It fits my hand well, functions well mechanically, looks business like and gives a good appearance at meetings and while working, unlike some of the cheap plastic ones.
I do a lot of legal briefs that are color coded. This allows me to work while travelling or at a desk without having to keep track of several different color pens.
This is a Feb 2015 update, and I am now giving the pen 5 stars. I fixed the ink problem by switching to Fischer Bullet Pen refills. Sadly they only come in Black, Blue, and Red, but for my work the Green that comes from the mfgr. is good enough. At least for me this is now the perfect writing instrument. Having lasted this long it is obviously stout, especially given the amount of use it gets! Better than it looks. Mechanism is great although a bit on the noisy side when trying to switch quickly.Published 3 days ago by Shi Chian Khor
Great pen. I've had many pens and this bridges high end without being obnoxious, and yet your proud to sign any deal with it! Read morePublished 5 months ago by Quentin climer
Very nice pen. Does have a roughness to it while selecting the color, but I'm fine with it. Not too heavy but not too lightweight.Published 7 months ago by Stpaky
Best four color pen ever. Very classy business version of the cheap bic onesPublished 9 months ago by Chuck Roberts
It writes nicely, but the reason I am giving it a 4 star is because of the weight and what seems like a cheaper quality than the Lamy 2000 mechanical pencil. Read morePublished 12 months ago by The Microbe
