Top Customer Reviews
It does work but the power output is less than advertised based on my testing with a simple resistor load. I connected this to a 60-watt 5V Anker 6-port USB power strip (which I have verified is better than 5% tolerance 5V at 2.8A on a single port) and began to take measurements.
Max power without total shutting down:
Input 4.88V at 1.94A
Output 11.28V at 652mA
Duration - 10 minutes before erratic voltage drops
Max power without shutting down:
Input 4.89V at 1.65A
Output 11.85V at 550mA
Duration - additional 15 minutes stable, immediately following max-power test
This suggests that this 12V adapter will reasonably provide continuous output at 12V around 500mA with brief surge current of 650mA, not the 800mA advertised by Amazon. It also gets a bit warm while it is running (137F on the plastic case as measured on IR thermometer). The good news is it seems to fail gracefully and "shut down" the converter (outputting about 4.5V until reset) on severe overload then "resets" if it is unplugged for a couple minutes.
I ordered the more expensive one from Kuncan for my first board, and decided to try this one on my second one, and performance appears to be the same.
