That said, the game can also be a lot of fun...IF you play it with something beside the chips. I would NEVER advocate gambling with children, but we found that if you substitute pocket change for chips (quarters work best, not surprisingly), the level of interest and excitement skyrockets. Incidentally, if you are playing with adults, I recommend a currency less round.
The normal game functions like this: You roll the special dice, reallocate your "chips" based on the roll, and pass the dice to the next person who does the same. There are no strategic decisions to make. There are no "reverses" or "switch chips with" commands or cards. Only three dice and a series of reallocation rolls.
One of the sides of the dice has a "C" on it for center, so eventually, all of the "chips" end up in a pile in the center. The last person left with currency wins the middle pile. There are a couple of variations on this simple theme, but I'm sure you get the gist of it. While there are no decisions to make, only rules to follow, the game is essentially a dumbed-down crap shoot. It's not educational in the least, but for the simple lesson that, if you are playing with "chip" substitutes, it is possible to go through a lot of quarters (or dollars) in an evening without winning anything. I suppose there is something to be learned from that if your children are using their own money. But we usually end up bankrolling our kids, which usually ends up bankrupting us by the end of the evening...provided the game lasts that long.Read more ›
larger and more colorful. But all in all it's a hoot.
You never know who will win until the very last
throw of the dice.
