This 400 watt hydroponics lighting system represents the best value grow light. Its advanced, integrated electronic ballast supports both High Pressure Sodium (HPS) and Metal Halide (MH) bulbs, giving the grower the flexibility to choose the best selection simply by changing the bulb. MH can be used for accelerated vegetative growth, then switched out for HPS to encourage flowering, fruiting, and budding Quality light reflector and power cord included. Features fast startup - reaches full brightness in less than 1/4 the time of most magnetic ballasts. Completely silent - no more humming and buzzing. Small, compact design and longer bulb life as lumen output loss over time is dramatically less than with magnetic ballasts. Electronic ballast lights both MH and HPS lamps. More lumen output - up to 20% more lumen output than regular ballasts. Heat sink technology - no fans to break down and make noise; fan-cooled ballasts have a higher failure rate. Light Fixture Specification: Fixture Size: 18-1/2 inch x 15 inch x 4-1/2 inch. Total Weight: 15lb. Note: Actual reflector hood may be slightly different from photo. Rated Voltage: 120V. Harmonic Distortion: <10%. Input Current: 3.52A. Crest Factor: <1.7 Frequency: 50Hz/60Hz. Frequency (Hz):25kHz ~ 100kHz. Power Factor: >0.99. Loss of Input Watts (%): <10%. Total Luminous Flux: >41,000Lm.

I started to use a computer fan on the capacitor since it seemed to run fairly hot and the fan keeps it at a cool comfortable temp.
SO, i started using the light right out of the box and had no problems. Then, after a bit i started to smell burning plastic but was unable to determine where it was coming from. After doing some searching online for similar accounts i found the problem... The reflector that comes in the package has a thin blue plastic sheet that is supposed to be removed before use (was to protect it during shipping). However, nowhere in the box was any notice of such a thing or as i can recall any instructions whatsoever. So essentially the smell was indeed from burning plastic and unfortunately some was melted solid to the reflector and won't come off.
But already the smell is much much less and I have less to worry about the fire hazard that was present.
Great product, does exactly what it is supposed to and my plants are growing fantastically
Capacitor runs hot so adding a small quiet fan is nice to cool its heatsink
REMOVE THE PLASTIC COVER on the reflector, less you want to do some serious damage via fire or destroyed bulb.
Instructions to set this up are completely non-existent... but it's simple to figure out. The reflector pulley's that came with my kit seem to be malfunctioning or just low-quality. Every time I would try to lower the reflector, it would pull right back up (not sure if anyone else had this problem), no matter how much I messed with the wing nuts on the side of the pulleys it would never stop the reflector from pulling back up. I solved this by purchasing some alligator clips and just clipping them onto the string to stop it from retracting. Easy.
The ballast does run a little hot, but it's designed to be a silent heatsink. I just put a small fan behind it to blow some air over the top and it seems to be working well.
All-in-all I am very happy with my purchase. I would highly recommend it to anyone, but don't be surprised when you don't find any instructions!
- Easy to set up, despite terrible instructions
- It cranks out so much light that I can read by it even when my tent is closed
- Switchable bulbs are great
- Price is unbeatable
- The included hangers are useless (but it was really easy to hang with a couple of chains)
- MH bulb was broken upon delivery (but it was quickly replaced by the manufacturer)
- Ballast runs quite hot (but is easily mounted out of the way somwhere)
See, all of my cons have a "but"!
I'm a beginner indoor grower, and would recommend this set to other beginner indoor growers. I'm sure are better sets out there, but not at this price.
Complete Kit with switchable ballast
Included MH / HPS bulbs
No frills light deflector.
No external on/off switch
I never used a grow light before so to me I didn't know what to expect. Wow this thing is bright. The need for a good quality deflector has now been added to my list however. When screwing in one of the bulbs with little force the glass cracked and broke. So be careful. The bulbs included can break easily.
The ballast does not seem to get that hot to me as others stated. I did run it for 1/2 hour so maybe after a few hours this becomes an issue. I probably will attach a 12v fan to it after taking some readings when in full use.
BTW: remove the blue cover on the defector before running. I forgot but remembered before melting it.
