Top customer reviews
(I included a photo to show what the final thing looks like if anyone is interested)
• Larger about 1 inch taller
• More detailed body pieces
• Back side of figure is more complete
• Not as posable - looks a little different
Darth Vader makes a great kit. I had to help my 6 year old daughter make him, but she can put the pieces back on that sometimes pop off. He can stand up to kid play. I would recommend him along with any of the other figures.
The first few steps are complicated, but the armor snaps together easily.
It is a lot bigger than you would expect from looking at the box. It stands as tall as the latest version of the LEGO AT-AT (75054) and the Ewok Village. It is pretty stiff in the joints, which is a good thing for longevity of play, but it is still poseable. You can hunch him down in a pretty intimidating attack stance with the four lightsabers pointing in various directions. You can also join his arms together to make single arms on each side of his body like in the movie. Personally, I prefer the look of the split arms.
There are a few other "Buildable Figures" that came out at the same time but this one was the only one that interested me at all. The other figures look a little funny in my opinion. They look too much like stick figures, especially where the legs join the torso. Just not a good or natural look at all to me. On the other hand, General Grievous in that style is perfect because he is essentially a robot, so those leg to body connections look normal.
Overall, this set is amazing with a great look and nice detail. It displays really well. This immediately skyrocketed way up the list of my favorite LEGO Star Wars sets. It is a must have for any General Grievous fan. Highly Recommended!
Some 18 years later I finally cave and purchase Darth Vader, because let's face it, this is the pinnacle of lego technic models.
Affordable and very cleverly designed, I was not let down - friends have told me this is the future basis for which all figures are designed and after building it, I feel that's true.
For kids, he has some excellent play value and the poses are wonderful for the imagination. For adults, well, his cape is excellent in quality but not as big and impressively mounted on the shoulders as the box image would lead us to believe. Like Grievous, you just need to make your own if you really want to go all out.
It's funny though, I never noticed how skinny vader's legs are since he's always shrouded in his cloak.
