Build a LEGO replica of the Brandenburg Gate! Create an historical monument with this real-world architectural replica of the Berlin s famous Brandenburg Gate.
From the Manufacturer
Commissioned by King Frederick William II of Prussia as a sign of peace, the Brandenburg Gate has been one of Berlin's most important monuments for over 200 years - both as an architectural landmark and historic symbol. The grandest of a series of 18 gates circling the city, the Brandenburg Gate was constructed between 1788-1791 from the Propylaea-inspired designs of architect Carl Gotthard Langhans. This sandstone gate consists of twelve Doric columns that combine to form five passageways, topped by the imposing Johann Gottfried Schadow statue, Quadriga - a four-horse chariot ridden by Victoria, the Roman Goddess of victory. This LEGO Landmark series interpretation of the Brandenburg Gate was designed by US architect Adam Reed Tucker in collaboration with the LEGO design team.

Having interest in various architectural styles, I took my chances and purchased this rendition of the Brandenburg Gate in the Legos Architectural series. At first I found the instructions to be somewhat confusing but as I progressed I gained a rhythm of placement of the bricks. However, as I progressed toward the finish I noticed that my columns were misplaced and I had to deconstruct and back pedal to my pages of error. Upon looking at the instructions I could see why I made the mistake as the angle of the picture did not show on which notch of the brick I was to use. Looking at the next series of pictures I could see my error. However I was placing other bricks on other subassemblies at that time and was not concerned with what I had finished. In other words the horse was already out of the barn and I didn’t even notice it.
In deconstruction I learned a great deal and discovered that one must assess placement after each page to make sure that you’re on the right track. Keep your eyes on the finished project and make sure you are using the right bricks and the placement is correct. Rushing can instill errors down the road. Once constructed, I was pleased with what was built and is a fine miniature detail of an historical monument with much architectural appeal.
One glitch is that I was missing one piece of a column and had to go on the Lego website to order the missing piece and thus I had to stop construction for two weeks until I received the missing piece. Lego does supply any missing pieces at no charge. In general I am very pleased with the product and will continue to buy others in the Lego Architectural Series.
