I'm a dad who enjoyed Lego as a kid and then returned to it when I had kids. I'm partial to Lego (ignore my star rating) but will always try to give you the best review so that you can make the right buying decision. I don't receive free Lego sets or compensation for my reviews. This set is part of Lego's wonderful Creator line (more on that below).

Just about every year, Lego offers one animal-themed Creator set. Last year it was the T-Rex (#6914) which was good. While my kids are immediately attracted to the mini-figure sets (e.g., Star Wars and Friends), the animal sets have grown on them. The sets are not as strongly gendered and they encourage both creative building and alternative modes of play.

This year's animal set, Fierce Flyer, is a very good one. It is a compact design with a lot of useful parts. It has a number of different joint types (e.g., hinges), brown and white plates (plates are always useful and brown is a more important color than one might immediately think), plenty of slopes, as well as detail parts like the talons and feathers.

The set includes directions for an eagle, a scorpion, and a beaver; there are enough parts to only build one at a time. The eagle is the standout and makes a fantastic Lego sculpture as well as a great action figure. For playability, you might want to purchase this set and last year's T-Rex (still available as I write this) so that kids have a small menagerie.

Still, part of the appeal of the set is that the Creator line uses general-use bricks rather than specialized parts. With the directions for different models, the Creator line inspires kids to rebuild their models into different things. This is closer to how Lego was when I was a child, though these sets employ new building techniques.

My 8 year old son is obsessed with eagles, and he loves Legos. This was the perfect set for him! The eagle is what he built first, and still has put together. While I like that he CAN build 2 more things, I am not sure if he actually will haha.

For those unaware, a 3 in 1 means it comes with instructions for 3 different models, but only enough pieces to make 1 at a time. I prefer these so you don't get bored making the same things over and over but you also don't have to buy a million different sets.

I love that the creator sets have instructions for making three different things. My son got this for his 7th birthday and built the eagle right away. Easy to follow directions, and like all Legos, they fit together and stay together so that you can actually move the parts that are supposed to move without the whole thing falling apart!

Awesome Lego set. I've been playing with Lego bricks since I was a little kid, and I was really intrigued when I saw this set. I built the main model, the eagle, by myself, and thought it was a neat build with some interesting features. My only complaint is that the feet seem too large compared with the rest of the body. Still, awesome model. Since that initial build, my kids have been nuts about it. The eagle is also their favorite, as they can pretend it's flying all over, but they've enjoyed building and playing with the scorpion and the beaver, too. We'd highly recommend this set for Lego enthusiasts of all ages as it looks cool just sitting there and has a really high play value, too!

My eagle-loving 8-year-old loved assembling this set. Although he has only put together the eagle thus far, I absolutely love these 3-1 sets because kids can take them apart and build something completely different.

Would totally recommend this set and 3-1 Lego creator sets in general! Get more for your money!!

I've been a huge LEGO fans since I've been a child. I admit that even now, as an adult, I'm still on the look-out for interesting LEGO sets. I own a lot of the Creator sets because they are wonderful sets to get out of the 'minifig' mentality.

I really enjoyed the creator set. It's pretty unique as most of the other Creator sets are vehicles or airplanes. The eagle uses some interesting building techniques but isn't a difficult build at all. When it's finished, it can be posed as if it's in flight or just sitting. It's sitting on my bookshelf now. Looks great and very playable!

Highly recommended for both children and adult fans of LEGO!

This set is a nice introduction (for a child or adult) to non-traditional LEGO building -- instead of cars or houses, there are three animals to build. The main build, a bald-headed eagle, is reasonably interesting, including lots of hinges, a few Technic connections, and a tiny bit of SNOT technique. The design of the wings (which fold down and back like a real bird's) and feet is clever, although I would have liked the head to move too.

Like most Creator sets, this one has a good selection of parts and is better priced on a cents-per-part basis than, for example, a typical Star Wars or Friends set. The only downside I can see is that the part colors included are not so well suited for building things other than animals. But that's what this set is for.

Pretty cool. I really like these new legos that have multiple designs. This one was really cool, but it was missing two pieces? This isn't the first time this has happened either. I think lego is slacking in the quality control of their packaging. But other then that it is really cool
