Everything so far is just the gravy though, lets get to the set. The details on this set are superb. There are no decals, all of the decal pieces have everything printed on them. It has the flux capacitor, a couple of gauges, and then the piece right on the dash with the actual dates from the first movie leaving 1985 and going back to 1958. It also comes with both of the license plates used in the three movies, I prefer the California OUTATIME plate, but it also has the orange 2015 barcoded plate that even has the state and the date on it. Both of the doors swing open, and the wheels swing down to mimic flying as displayed on the front of the box. It even has some clear pieces that act as a stand underneath it so that you can mimic hovering if you decide to display it like that. It also comes with all of the pieces necessary to make the changes that happened to the car though out the movies.
I only have two tiny complaints regarding this set. The first is that the docs hair is designed in such a way that he doesn't fit in the car, and its just barely that he doesn't fit, so I have mine set up so it looks like he's getting in, but Marty does fit in the car with no problems. The other slight thing is that I would have loved to have seen Doc's dog as part of the set, but like I said these are both trivial things. The detail in the characters is fantastic, the both have two faces you can switch between smiling, and being afraid, then the other face is covered by the hair.
In conclusion, if you know someone who is a fan of both Legos and the Back to the Future movies I highly recommend this set. The detail is fantastic, and you can't beat the price. The best bang for your buck that I've seen in a lego set in quiet a while.
I arrived home around 4:30pm EST to an Amazon box on my porch. There was snow all over the porch, but where this box was placed, it seemed to have been dusted as if the UPS man (probably some hunk, I am glad my wife wasn't home...that is how those stories go), knew there was something special in this box. This box wasn't like the truck full of boxes he delivers every day...he knew he would change a life this day, this glorious day.
I picked up the box and rushed in the door. Wow. This is it. Two of my favorite things harmoniously have come together. For a 27 year old manboy, nothing else mattered, but what was about to happen.
I had pizza for an early lunch earlier in the day. I removed my jacket and boots and marched straight into the bathroom. With my laptop already set up, I put on Back to the Future one. As the clocks went off and the first log of lunch dropped, I opened the box and felt like John Travolta in Pulp Fiction opening the briefcase. Was there any light glowing in the box? No, but it felt like it.
Nostalgia washed over me in an awesome way. As I took out the directions I was trying to make an inventory of all of the glorious parts that made me feel like I went...wait for it...back in time to a simpler time. Cue Huey Lewis (I'm afraid you're just too darn loud!). After a good 40 minutes on the toilet (Don't worry, no hemorrhoids), I was complete. As I played with DeLorean whilst BTTF was in the background I remembered that life is really great sometimes.
The best part about this, is you have parts for all three memorable DMC's in the box. A Mr. Fusion, the red walled tires from 3 with the hood mounted contraption. And there is even a hoverboard for Marty.
Thank you Lego for taking one of my dreams and selling it to me. It is a wonderful piece that truly brings me joy.
As for the set ... look, there was no way I was passing it up. The Back to the Future trilogy remains one of my favorite film series, and I relished the chance to own a Lego version of the iconic DeLorean. This set contains both Marty and Doc minifigures (both featuring two different facial expressions), along with a skateboard for Marty. It provides the pieces and instructions to build one of three different configurations of the DeLorean. I went with the Part III version as it includes the steam punk-ish electronics on the hood which (a) look cool and (b) cover up a hood design that's stepped instead of sloped and doesn't look all that great in the Part I and II versions.
There are other things about the design that aren't ideal. The fact that both characters don't seem to fit inside the vehicle at the same time is a bummer. And the doors that open upward (just like in the movie) are cleverly constructed but flimsy as hell. They're connected by a single stud and will fall off if you're opening and closing them too much.
Still, any negatives are made up for by the fact that the wheels are designed to rotate under the car for when you want to put it in flying mode ... and that you can build a Mr. Fusion for the rear ... and that the set comes with both the original "OUTATIME" license plate as well as the bar code plate from the future. It's clear that, despite some design quirks, a lot of love went into this thing. Back to the Future fans should not pass it up.

No pieces missing at all, box in mint condition, very fast delivery, absolutely fantastic purchase. Price is quite a hike for this size of Lego set but considering it is not being made anymore I was more than understanding of the price, and happy to pay for it, his joy when opening the present was worth every penny!
The idea of recreating move favorites like this appeals to fans like me. Having missed an opportunity to buy this when it was originally released was inspired by the launch of the Ghostbusters Ecto-1 car.
After building the Ghostbusters car, the natural thing to do was get the Delorean car which was an absolute joy to build and the mini figures are fantastic too.
I love the quality of the design and the clever use of bricks to build this car.
This stands proudly alongside my Ghostbusters car now!
Looking forward to more movie designs from Lego Cuusoo.
The only small gripe I have is that I did not realise when I ordered this car, it was coming from the USA and it took a month to come. On the positive side, it was the cheapest available at the time so it turned out a winner for me.
The build itself was very satisfying with a mixture of simple and more complex elements. The way in which the different features like the gullwing doors and the 'flight mode' wheels are implemented is fantastic, and very satisfying to see functioning in the finished result. It looks incredibly accurate both in scale and detail; there is printing on interior elements like the flux capacitor which adds a certain level of depth and authenticity to the set, and the minifigures of Marty McFly and Doc Brown are brilliantly accurate and detailed with front and back printing.
Price wise, I would have expected a slightly larger build, but since it is designed to be accurate in scale for a minifigure, it's hard to complain, not to mention the fact that this set really is an item for fans and collectors, and looks great as a stationary model.
Overall, this set was a great purchase, and it succeeded in kickstarting my love for building Lego sets again, can't recommend it enough.
